Job Summary
The Lab Assistant will support the daily operations of UWG's makerspaces. This hands-on, customer-facing position involves assisting with open lab hours, supporting workshops, events and maker projects, maintaining equipment, and helping users safely navigate the tools and technologies available in the space.
Responsibilities

• Assist students, faculty, and guests with equipment use and project troubleshooting.
• Help enforce safety protocols and lab policies at all times.
• Perform light maintenance on machines; report issues when needed.
• Support the makerspace manager with workshops, orientations, special event, and special projects.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab.
• Help prepare materials and tools for events and instructional activities.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled UWG student in a minimum of 6 credit hours and in good academic standing.
• Must have and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
• Willing to undergo training on equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering stations, CNC machines, woodworking tools, and more.
• Demonstrates a willingness to learn and build new skills.
• Able to follow established safety procedures and enforce lab rules.
• Comfortable working independently and taking initiative during shifts.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions

• Position requires standing for extended periods, lifting, and working directly with hand and power tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering equipment, and CNC/woodworking machinery in a makerspace lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with any of the following: 3D modeling, embedded computing (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), electronics/soldering, power tools, woodworking, metalworking, or digital content creation.
• Previous customer service or peer support experience.
• Passion for making, tinkering, or design-based problem solving.

Shifts are scheduled during open hours (Monday¿Friday). Occasional evening or special event shifts may be available. Candidates must be available to work 10 hours per week.
