Job description

Job Title: Lab Assistant
Department: Chemistry
Supervisor: Dr. Pamela Knippenberg
Starting Rate of Pay: $10.00 / hour
Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.
Department Description
The chemistry and biochemistry programs at High Point University prepare those majoring in chemistry or biochemistry for graduate study in chemistry and chemistry-related professional programs. They also educate science and allied health majors in general chemistry and organic chemistry. The programs are an excellent preparation for careers in allied health fields such as pharmacy and medicine. As a student employee you will gain leadership and management experience, while enhancing your critical thinking, communication, and organization skills.
Job Description
Each lab assistant will aid in the preparation of chemistry or biochemistry labs and/or assist faculty during a lab section. Each lab assistant is responsible for setting out equipment and reagents, resetting labs between sections, and cleaning glassware. Some solution preparation may also be required. Lab assistants are expected to abide by and enforce safety rules in chemistry laboratories.
Job Location / Hours Required
The candidate will perform all job duties in Wanek School of Natural Sciences. Hours will vary but will be between 2 and 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Aid faculty in laboratory setting
  • Ensure safety of students in lab
  • Maintain cleanliness of the lab
  • Set up and put away lab equipment
  • Clean glassware
  • Prepare reagents

Required Qualifications:
Applicant must have completed and passed the course for with they are assisting. A recommendation from a Chemistry faculty member is also required.
