JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Lab Analyst I is responsible for performing analytical testing of inorganic materials and is also responsible for managing data in support of Materion's requirements for customers and the ISO 17025 management system. The Lab Analyst I reports to the Analytical Lab Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follow standard procedures regarding sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis; this entails very accurate weighing of samples, hot plate acid digestion of samples, and accurate dilutions among other common laboratory procedures; attention to detail is a key requirement.
  • Perform testing and data recording for provided samples using the following techniques (not necessarily a complete listing):
  • ICP-OES
  • PSD
  • LECO O/N
  • BET/SA
  • LECO C/S
  • Classical Wet Chemistry
  • AAS
  • DC Arc
  • Maintain open and active communication with managers regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide training and guidance to other lab personnel on analytical methods and practices as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment, including the handling and movement of bulk acids. Comply with all procedures and good laboratory practices.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 2 or more years of relevant analytical laboratory experience.
  • Able to perform intermediate mathematical calculations
  • Basic understanding of ASTM standards and requirements for ISO 17025 accreditation
  • Proficient in the use of Excel functions, LIMS (including maintenance of functions related to daily operations), and other standard office software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
