Job description

Union:           RN / RPh 

Status:          Full time 

Schedule:    7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m. Every Third Weekend

FTE:              1.0 (80 hours per pay period)

Has authority and responsibility for the management of Nursing care and services for a specified group of patients. Performs with professional judgment the on-going observations, assessments, and Nursing actions in relation to identified patient needs. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the direct supervision of a Manager or designee who assigns areas of responsibility and reviews results for compliance with established standards. May direct and coordinate the work of professional and ancillary personnel providing Nursing care to patients.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Must obtain BLS certification upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of professional Nursing theory and practice.
  • Clinical competence in applying Nursing techniques to specific needs.
  • Preferred experience in site area.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective and harmonious working relationship with patients, family, team members, physicians, and support staff.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Michigan licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  1. Completes initial Nursing assessment per hospital policy; plans and implements written individual Nursing care plans based on assessments; updates and maintains care plans as appropriate.
  2. Provides or directs performance of nursing techniques for patient comfort and well-being, including bathing, feeding, and oral hygiene.
  3. Instructs patients regarding various aspects of treatment plans in order to minimize apprehension associated with hospitalization, as well as to educate patient on steps necessary to achieve and maintain optimal health levels.
  4. Makes regular rounds of assigned patients, observing, recording, evaluating and reporting patient symptoms, vital signs, responses to treatment or medications. Follows through with appropriate action.
  5. Maintains accurate accountability of all narcotic administration records; gives intravenous and other medications and blood transfusions.
  6. Assists in planning for patient disposition, i.e., discharge planning, patient/family training.
  7. Takes an active role in maintaining professional skills related to area of practice.
  8. Assesses patient for ongoing continuum of care needs.
  9. Assists in orientation of unit personnel and students.
  10. Participates in policy and procedure interpretation, implementation, and evaluation regarding delivery of patient care and unit operations.
  11. Utilizes computer/information systems for input or retrieval of information.
  12. Practices within Michigan State Nurse Practice Act.
  13. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
  14. Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
