Pay Rate:
The anticipated pay for this position starts at $11.25. The final rate will be determined based on qualifications, experience, education, and years within the job or industry.
Schedule:
Part-time. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event and operational needs.
What You'll Do
As a Part-Time Building Manager, you'll help ensure the KU Memorial Unions' facilities operate smoothly while providing exceptional service to students, campus partners, and visitors. You'll serve as the primary onsite contact during your shift, support events, respond to building needs, and help create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who visits our facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate daily building operations, activities, and events to ensure facilities are prepared and patrons receive outstanding service.
  • Manage meeting space reservations and event logistics using EMS, Visio, and other event management software.
  • Communicate important operational information through building and incident reports.
  • Monitor facility conditions, including audio/visual equipment, HVAC systems, lighting, fire safety systems, and other building infrastructure, reporting or addressing issues as appropriate.
  • Serve as the building representative during emergencies, including coordinating evacuations or shelter-in-place procedures and communicating with emergency responders and KU Public Safety.
  • Apply and enforce KU Memorial Unions policies and procedures related to facility operations, security, patron safety, and appropriate building use.
  • Provide accurate information and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and guests regarding the KU Memorial Unions and the University of Kansas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Collaborate with Building & Event Services professional staff through regular meetings and ongoing communication.
  • Provide operational support for special events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience with event or facilities management.
  • Experience using or supporting audio/visual equipment.
  • Familiarity with the University of Kansas campus.
  • Current enrollment at the University of Kansas.

Working Conditions
Work is performed throughout the KU Memorial Unions facilities, including office spaces, meeting rooms, event venues, and other public areas. The position requires frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, and moving throughout multiple buildings during a shift. Employees regularly interact with students, faculty, staff, guests, and event clients in a fast-paced environment and may occasionally be exposed to varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, and outdoor weather conditions when responding to operational needs or supporting events.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently climb stairs and move throughout multiple facilities.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Operate computers, radios, telephones, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and changing operational needs.
  • Perform repetitive hand motions while using computers and other office equipment.
