Job description

[Position]

Senior Software & Automation Engineer

Location : Fort Lee, NJ (Fully Onsite)

Salary : 70K-110K as base per year

[About Our Client]

As a leading steel coil distributor in the U.S. for over thirty years, we provide a broad range of high-quality steel and aluminum products. Our efficient and reliable supply chain network spans North America and the globe, allowing us to consistently deliver exceptional products, dedicated customer service, and comprehensive administrative support.

[Job Summary]

We are seeking a Senior Software & Automation Engineer to join our small technology team and work hands-on across our in-house ERP , data pipelines, automation, and AI tooling. This is a senior individual-contributor role, not a management role: you will own work end to end alongside our existing engineer and split a broad, real-world workload in a bilingual (Korean-English) corporate environment.

Full-stack engineering is the core of the job; because our team is small, you should be comfortable wearing multiple hats and using AI to multiply what you deliver.

Who Thrives in This Role:

You enjoy variety and autonomy over deep specialization. In a given week, you might build a full-stack feature, automate a business workflow, wire up an AI agent, fix an ERP data issue, and talk directly to the people who use what you build. You see leveraging AI to multiply your own output as the fun part, not a distraction. This role is probably not for you if you want to focus on a single stack or a narrow specialty with a large team and well-defined tickets handed to you.

[Job Description]

Design, build, and maintain services and APIs for our in-house ERP and internal systems (TypeScript/Node.js and Python backend, React front-end).

Build and improve data pipelines and reporting (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio) that business teams rely on for decisions.

Investigate and resolve production issues across the ERP , databases, and integrations; improve reliability, performance, and data integrity.

Build internal automation and tools (including Google Apps Script) to streamline Sales, SCM, Accounting, and Operations workflows.

Build AI-enabled automation, including AI agents and coding-assistant harnesses, and contribute to the company's broader AI initiatives.

Work directly with business users to turn requirements into working software, communicating in both Korean and English.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong backend skills (TypeScript/Node.js and Python, or a comparable stack), including API design and data modeling.
  • Comfortable across the full stack, including modern front-end (React/TypeScript).
  • Solid SQL and relational database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Hands-on experience using AI assistants and coding CLIs (e.g., Claude Code) in daily development and genuine interest in building AI agents and automation.
  • Ability to work independently, own work end to end, and take on a broad range of technical tasks in a small team.
  • Cloud experience (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP or other core business systems, including modernization or migration work.
  • Software design experience with patterns such as Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CQRS, and incremental modernization.
  • Familiarity with modern data stacks (BigQuery, Dataform, Data Studio).
  • Experience with Google Apps Script or workflow automation.
  • Industry experience in steel, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or supply chain.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GCP/AWS).
