Job Summary :

Serves the needs for patients, associates, physicians, and the public through the effective and efficient completion of building, central plant, and equipment maintenance, performing major equipment overhauls, installations, and training /instruction of maintenance personnel.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Repairs and maintains electrical and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, appliances, machinery, kitchen and refrigeration equipment, and sterilizers.

2. Repairs and maintains heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, including calibration and repair of associated controls.

3. Works as team leader on new installations and remodeling projects.

4. Performs general electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.

5. Provides instruction and training to Maintenance I, IA, and II personnel who are assigned to work for him/her.

6. Assists with operation and fine-tuning of the building energy management system.

7. Drives hospital vehicles on hospital campus, to satellite facilities, Indianapolis and surrounding areas to perform job duties, deliver, or pick up replacement or repair parts.

Education and Experience Required:

Either of the following combinations of education and experience is required as a minimum:

1. Trade school diploma or associate degree (minimum one year), or apprenticeship in either electrical, plumbing, or HVAC trade. High school diploma or GED with five years of experience in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work, with apprenticeship preferred. General maintenance experience in buildings, plant, and equipment also required.

2. High school diploma or GED with 15 years of related maintenance experience, 10 of which shall have been in a hospital. "Related experience" can include work in nursing homes, working on HVAC equipment for contractors or installers, and working on central plants for hotels. Demonstrated skills in at least three of the following areas necessary for proper maintenance of a hospital; - HVAC; - plumbing; - electrical work; - operation and maintenance of building energy management systems; - sterilizer maintenance; - clinical equipment (bio-med) maintenance "Demonstrated" means that competency has been evaluated and documented by the department management and that the individual is capable of completing projects in the area of expertise in a timely manner with a minimum of supervision or coaching. Certification in trade schools, seminars, vendor schools, and letters of recommendations from previous employers can also be used to demonstrate competency.
