Job description

Kiln Operator, 2nd Shift.
BENEFITS: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K
AHF Products has a job opportunity for a Kiln Operator to be located in Crossville, TN.
This position is responsible for the production functions required by the Kiln Department and assist other positions in the department when necessary. This position is located in Crossville offices/plants, requiring attendance and adherence to scheduled and assigned work hours. Position is not a telecommuting position.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Run kilns from start up to shut down.
  • Operate LGV computer system
  • Operate LGVs manually.
  • Communicate with and work closely with other departments, ensuring that the department is supplying other departments with the produce they need and communicating any quality issues.
  • Produce engobe, clean engobe trays and empty tubs.
  • Recognize Quality Issues with tile.
  • Follow processes and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct all aspects of instrument observation, gas burner control techniques and changing out, roller cleaning, tile feeding and handling of system, plus all parameters that affect the operation of the unit.
  • Demonstrate understanding of control panel buttons.
  • Demonstrate understanding of high flame to low flame and low flame to high flame.
  • Understand power outage response.
  • Communicate effectively with and work closely with other departments, specifically the Press, Glaze, Sorting and S&S departments, to ensure that the department is supplying other departments with the product they need and communicating any quality issues.
  • Recognize any quality issues with tile.
  • Operate all loaders and unloaders in the Kiln and Glaze departments.
  • Complete changeovers on the kilns in a timely manner.
  • Monitor continuously the functions of the roller hearth kiln.
  • Marshall all of the tile in the storage system.
  • Ensure that the unit is working between very fine control limits in order to produce consistently good tile.
  • Report any issues to the next shift.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, Supervisors, and other Departments.
  • Follow safety guidelines and company standards, and wear PPE at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean and safe workplace.
  • Perform any other duties that may be required or assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with employees, management, and vendors
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to work holidays.
  • Must be available to work overtime as necessary and work other shifts as necessary, may be called in during abnormal hours
  • Must pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test, physical, and criminal background check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent climbing, bending, standing, walking at a brisk pace 8+ hours a day, squatting, reaching, pushing and pulling
  • Occasional lifting 80 pounds, either alone or with the assistance of another employee, in conformity with lifting techniques detailed in safety policies and training materials

  • Frequently vision must be sufficient to see tools and equipment clearly
  • Frequent hearing with the use of ear protection
  • Frequent ability to tolerate and work at heights
