Main Duties & Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
Completely and independently sets up andoperates the various Cold/Hot header machines inuse by the Company to perform operations such as forming, shaping, cutting,piercing etc. on various sizes and types of metal wire, bar stock etc. torequired close tolerances per blueprint or other specifications. Operates othermachine tools as necessary to produce tooling required for heading set-up andoperation. Performs any troubleshooting or rework on work performed.
DESCRIPTION OFESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Completely and independently sets up various types of Cold/Hot Header machines making required adjustments to diameters, grip lengths, depths, etc. to tolerances of + .0007. Uses various support tools and equipment such as wrenches, pliers, calipers, micrometers etc. to set-up, maintain and repair machine. Performs any troubleshooting or rework on work performed.
  2. Loads wire or bar stock, positions and secures to holding device. Verifies feed position. Selects machine speed, tooling and other variable tasks and items required based upon most efficient methods to maintain tolerances for material and tooling required.
  3. Operates various types of Cold/Hot Headers machines as required for the completion of the various operations necessary on the workpieces being formed. Maintains visual check of work in progress to assure proper functioning of equipment. Secures necessary inspection approval including first article when required.
  4. Provides necessary counts, processes documentation correctly, and maintains daily production logs using computer software applications or production worksheets. Keeps interim records for subassemblies, material, tooling, rework, etc. while in the cell. Uses knowledge of SPC to monitor process control and ensure that acceptable inspection statistical results and records are maintained.
  5. Reads and interprets blueprints or other documentation to determine machining required and plans any sequence of operations on headers.

6. Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the production operations in a cell. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assists other cell members as required.
Equipment/Process Responsibilities -
Performs duties where property, tools, equipment, ormachines may be damaged, or man hours lost through improper daily maintenance andattention to processing. Sets-up and adjusts various types of Cold/Hot Header machines for the jobs performed. Maintains and effects minorrepairs of machines.
Material or Product Responsibilities -
Performs duties that require close attentionto work and supporting documentation specifications and other requirements.Responsible for accuracy of parts formed. Visually and/or with measuring instrumentschecks work performed for proper results.
Responsibility for Work of Others -
Accuracy ofcommunication is mandatory to the successful production and qualification ofworkpieces. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems orconcerns regarding quality of work received or time flow of work in progress as itaffects production schedules. Must be able to train employees of equal or lowerclassification in Cold/Hot Header set-up and operation as well as on methodsand procedures used by the Company in the production workflow and tracking.
Safety Responsibilities -
Good housekeeping,knowledge of good machine safety is necessary as well as adherence to CompanySafety Rules.
Initiative and Ingenuity -
Requires initiativein solving problems associated with the set-up and operation of various types of Cold/Hot Header machines andingenuity in adapting tooling and shop aids to complete forming operations.Makes suggestions for improving the efficiency of work flow or equipment operation. Takeson or reports for additional work as current tasks are completed. Performsother work related tasks asdeemed necessary by Company needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Surroundings - Work is in a machine shop environment wherenoise, temperature fluctuations, the repetitive nature of job, etc. are lessdesirable than in a typicaloffice environment.
Unavoidable Hazards - Possible hazards related to cuts, bruises, finger and hand injuries, musclestrains and burns. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, metalworking fluids,heating elements and airborne particles. Appropriate protective wear regarding eye, ear, andclothing are required.
EFFORT
Physical - Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requiresstrength to adjust requisite equipment to set-up specifications. Hand and fingermanipulation in turning tools/valves/handles or operating knobs/cranks/buttonsetc. as well as using precision measuring instruments. Able to reach, bend andstretch. Able to use tools required for machine set-up which may be fatiguingand require extensive physical exertion for extended periods of time. Most jobassignments require continuous standing and/or sitting for periods exceeding 15minutes at a time.
Mental - Work at times is highly repetitive andmonotonous. However during setups work varies and requires use of machine shop theory.Setups or machine repair may require improvisation and ingenuity. Reasoningability required to interpret complex blueprints and documentation of ahighly technical nature. Must be able to draw valid conclusions from a varietyof abstract and concrete variables. Required to organize workflow for best efficiency.
Visual - Close attention to detail with moderate eyeconcentration over long periods of time. Able to read various precisioninstruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc. Must be able to visually checkworkpieces for quality.
Pay range: $31.62 to $37.89 LG 10 (2nd shift) 1:00pm to 9:30pm Monday through Friday
Qualifications
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Demonstrated ability to read and write English of a level required inCompany shop documents and computer software entry and processingrequirements. Must be capable of applying mathematical operations usingfractions, decimals, trigonometry and geometry as required by cell machiningoperations. Generally equivalent to journeyman trade school graduate in theset-up and operation of Cold/Hot heading machines.
EXPERIENCE
Requires 4 years work experience or equivalent skills and knowledgeexpertise in the set-up and operation of various Cold/Hot Header machines, tools, and equipment which aresimilar or comparable to those used by the Company and which are necessaryto fulfill job requirements. Must have demonstrated the capability to set-upand operate the Header machines required in the cell to the level ofjourneyman. Must have held linear and diameter tolerances to ยฑ .0007, T.I.R. to ยฑ .001 forthreading, etc. Must read precision measuring instruments such as various gauges,calipers and micrometers as well as engineering diagrams similar orcomparable to those used in machine tooling operations by the Company.
