About the role
Position Overview: Retail Associates are responsible for engaging with guests and creating a joyful and welcoming atmosphere at the Kidspace Museum Store and pop-up locations. As part of a dynamic team within the museum which serves young children and their families, a playful attitude and interest in working with families of young children is a must! Retail Associates will provide excellent customer service to guests and will have knowledge and understanding of the Kidspace Point of Sale system for both on-site and online storefronts and assist in processing both onsite merchandise sales and fulfilling online orders. Typical hours 9-5, weekends required, as well as some evenings.
What you'll do
  • Proactively enhance the guest experience with excellent customer service, addressing guest questions and concerns with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Drive sales through product knowledge, recommendations, guest engagement, and thoughtful selling to meet or exceed sales goals, including Kidspace Gift Memberships.
  • Perform cashier duties for all retail sales, following established cash handling and all other store policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Shopify POS.
  • Daily responsibilities include performing opening and closing procedures; organizing, merchandising, cleaning, answering store phone, and restocking product as needed, engaging in merchandise demonstrations, giftwrapping, fulfilling online orders.
  • Attends seasonal training meetings, and all staff meetings as assigned.
  • Effectively communicates with guests and colleagues in a positive way using excellent verbal and nonverbal communication (i.e. body language).
  • Works as a team across departments with an ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; ability to resolve conflicts; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
  • Participation in physical inventory is required, typically twice a year.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, busy environment with attention to detail, adaptability, and efficiency. Additional job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Flexibility, a willingness to learn, and a can-do attitude.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in retail sales and guest-driven environments preferred.
  • Availability at least 3 full days per week, including at least one weekend day, with occasional evening and event work.
  • Competent and comfortable using digital devices and programs that include email, Internet, Windows, Microsoft Office and other computer systems.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English language communication, bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin a plus.
  • Regularly meets and exceeds our Baseline Expectations of friendly, safe, and professional, and demonstrates great judgment and the ability to work well with others on the team.
  • Ability to model museum best practices and uphold policies and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work while standing and walking (with reasonable accommodation) in an outdoor environment that includes inclement or sunny weather. Kidspace is largely an outdoor facility, regular exposure to outdoor elements is required.

*All candidates must be 18+ years old and committed to an availability of at least 3 full days with one of those days on the weekend.
