Job description

Description
Kharon is seeking a hands-on, strategic Corporate Controller to lead and scale our accounting function. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will provide strategic and operational leadership over Kharon’s core accounting and tax functions. This role is responsible for end-to-end accounting, tax strategy, and financial compliance.
At Kharon, the Corporate Controller will be a technical operator who has led and managed an accounting organization as it scaled through rapid growth.  You are a process architect who isn't afraid to get your hands dirty while building the sophisticated infrastructure required to support a high-growth subscription business. You bring a "growth mindset" to technical accounting and tax.  You serve as a true player-coach, balancing leadership and people development with direct ownership of the accounting organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assume leadership of and for an accounting team of 3 (Director of Accounting, Senior Accountant, Junior Accountant).
  • Own technical accounting under U.S. GAAP, with a specific mastery of ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) for multi-element subscription contracts, lease accounting, and complex compensation schemes.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, driving automation to shorten the cycle and increase data integrity.
  • Own, maintain, and monitor the Accounting ERP (Netsuite).
  • Lead the company to a state of permanent audit readiness and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and the Board’s Audit Committee.
  • Lead partnership tax and compliance, managing complex legal/tax structures, distributions, and multi-state/international tax nexus.
  • Partner with Finance to design and implement a "source of truth" reporting framework to align accounting data with FP&A and core subscription metrics.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a strong internal control environment, with an eye toward future SOX and PCAOB readiness.
  • Oversee statutory, sales & use tax, indirect tax, and income tax compliance in partnership with external advisors and the Director of Accounting.
  • Manage compliance for intercompany accounting as the company scales globally.
  • Establish scalable accounting policies, procedures, and documentation across order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and record-to-report cycles.
  • Inherit and mentor a talented accounting team, providing the strategic oversight and technical depth needed to elevate the department's performance.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Revenue Operations, Legal, People, and IT to ensure accounting is appropriately represented in business decisions.
  • Provide thoughtful, business-oriented insights to executive leadership and the Board.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high standards across the accounting function.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with high-growth SaaS company experience, who is energized by building scalable infrastructure, mentoring a high-performing team, and partnering cross-functionally to drive business results.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and active CPA license.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, specifically within high-growth, venture- or PE-backed SaaS or recurring revenue businesses. Deep working knowledge of the U.S. GAAP, with demonstrated technical accounting experience in SaaS or technology environments.
  • Deep, verifiable experience in partnership tax and complex tax (sales & use, indirect, partnership, income, statutory) compliance.
  • Demonstrable track record of building departments and processes from "good to great" rather than just maintaining the status quo.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and audit processes; experience leading external audits.
  • Superior communication skills,
