Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Estimating to lead and manage our preconstruction and estimating department. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all estimating operations, developing accurate and competitive project budgets, mentoring estimating staff, and partnering with executive leadership to support the company's growth objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess 10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience, including prior leadership experience managing estimating teams and preconstruction efforts across a diverse portfolio of projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating and preconstruction team.
  • Oversee all estimating activities from conceptual budgeting through final proposal submission.
  • Establish department standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Review and approve estimates, budgets, GMPs, and bid submissions.
  • Manage workload distribution and staffing within the estimating department.
  • Collaborate with ownership, operations, project management, and business development teams to support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Evaluate project opportunities and assist with go/no-go decisions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, owners, architects, and design consultants.
  • Participate in client presentations, interviews, and preconstruction meetings.
  • Analyze market trends, labor conditions, material pricing, and subcontractor availability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions during preconstruction.
  • Support contract negotiations and project handoff to operations teams.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Prior leadership experience managing estimators, preconstruction managers, or estimating departments.
  • Strong understanding of conceptual estimating, hard bid estimating, negotiated work, GMP development, and value engineering.
  • Experience estimating projects across multiple commercial construction sectors.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and construction technology platforms.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of project costs, risk analysis, and budgeting.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
