Essential Job Duties
NC State Dining is seeking a dynamic, hands-on Food Service Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of a campus café or market. This is a working supervisory role where you will lead by example, driving exceptional customer service and culinary quality during peak service hours. If you are a collaborative leader dedicated to fostering a safe, high-energy environment for the Wolfpack community, we want you on our team!
Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Operations & Leadership: Oversee front- and back-of-house operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, register setup, and attractive product displays.
  • Team Management: Interview, hire, schedule, and train student and temporary staff. Mentor employees through cross-training, one-on-one coaching, and daily duty assignments.
  • Quality & Inventory Control: Maintain brand-specific standards for food and beverage quality. Assist with vendor ordering, conduct regular inventories, and utilize the C-Board food system to manage food and labor costs.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Maintain a strong presence to resolve customer issues on the spot, build rapport with guests, and ensure swift, friendly service.
  • Sanitation & Safety: Uphold strict Wake County Health Department and food code rules to maintain a Grade A sanitation rating (95% or better). Ensure all allergen best practices and sanitation logs are strictly followed.

Other Responsibilities
  • Model the Division's mission and values, introduce the Division's mission and values to the employees, and foster a positive, cohesive workplace and congeniality among co-workers.
  • Understand the goals and culture of the organization, and understand how employees' work activities, teamwork, and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
  • Adhere to all University policies, procedures, and regulations, and Division standard operating practices and protocols.
  • Due to operational needs of the NC State Dining department, an employee may be assigned to work in any NC State Dining department including, but not limited to special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure NC State Dining business needs are met.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High School diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in food preparation or service activities in a commercial kitchen; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the food service industry, including barista operations and knowledge of food service best practices.
  • Supervisory experience with responsibility for planning, forecasting, ordering, budgeting, and resolving day-to-day operational issues.
  • Experience hiring, training, coaching, and developing employees while fostering positive employee relations and effective team performance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of sanitation, safety, and health regulations, along with proficiency using computers and the ability to learn new software applications.

Required License or Certification
  • ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
  • Must obtain Brand specific certification, if applicable, as required by location within 90 days of employment.
