Pharmacy Account Director
Location: This field‑based role enables associates to primarily operate in the field, traveling to client sites or designated locations as their role requires, with occasional office attendance for meetings or training. This approach ensures flexibility, responsiveness to client needs, and direct, hands‑on engagement. Alternate locations may be considered.

The Pharmacy Account Director is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external clients while serving as the primary pharmacy leader for an assigned book of business. This role is accountable for driving client retention, profitability, client satisfaction, and growth by partnering closely with health plan, medical, and operational teams to deliver consultative pharmacy solutions for large regional accounts. The ideal candidate brings strong PBM or health plan experience and excels at managing complex client relationships through a highly collaborative, cross‑functional approach.
How you will make an impact
- Execute strategic sales and tactical account plans by consulting with key client decision makers, operational stakeholders, and internal medical and pharmacy partners to support client retention, satisfaction, and growth.
- Provide ongoing consultative support to regional decision makers and partner with the PBM field sales team during renewal and RFP processes to deliver pharmacy solutions that meet client needs.
- Assist in the development of recommendations for outcomes‑based savings, pharmacy trend management, and revenue opportunities that improve client value and profitability.
- Assist operations and clinical pharmacy partners in developing key therapeutic programs and pharmacy strategies based on clinical outcomes and earnings potential.
- Assist in meeting internal health plan penetration goals while managing an assigned pharmacy book of business and strengthening long‑term client relationships.
Minimum Requirements
Requires a BA/BS and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experience
- Prior Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) or health plan account management experience supporting large commercial, public sector, or regional employer clients with responsibility for client retention, profitability, and growth.
- Demonstrated experience managing a complex pharmacy book of business and serving as the primary strategic advisor for clients with 5,000+ covered lives.
- Proven success leading pharmacy renewal strategy, negotiating complex client solutions, supporting RFP activities, and delivering consultative presentations to executive‑level client stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating across cross‑functional teams including pricing, underwriting, operations, clinical pharmacy, and medical account management to develop and implement client‑specific pharmacy strategies.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to identify pharmacy cost‑saving opportunities, improve client outcomes, and drive profitable growth through data‑driven recommendations.
- A Pharmacy License or experience in the specialty pharmacy, PBM, or managed care pharmacy industry is strongly preferred.
For candidates working in person or virtually in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $142,560 to $224,532.
