ABOUT THE ROLE
Join the Network Engineering team at a leading Fortune 100 Energy client as a Jr. Telecom Engineer, participating in Brooksource's Elevate Program. As a Jr. Telecom Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the performance, reliability, and optimization of telecommunications network infrastructure that underpins critical utility operations across multiple locations. You will gain hands-on experience with enterprise networking technologies, MESH network environments, and Itron communication systems, while collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to ensure network reliability and operational excellence. WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Monitor and support telecommunications and network infrastructure to ensure reliability and performance across multiple locations.
  • Troubleshoot network issues by analyzing logs, alarms, and performance data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate communication failures and develop recommendations for both immediate and long-term improvements.
  • Support MESH network environments and assist with maintaining connectivity across networked devices and systems.
  • Work with Itron communication systems and tools to support operational and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external vendors to resolve network incidents and implement solutions.
  • Assist with vendor management activities, including coordinating troubleshooting efforts and tracking issue resolution.
  • Review network performance trends and recommend enhancements to improve stability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Document network issues, troubleshooting procedures, resolutions, and technical recommendations for knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Participate in incident response activities and support restoration efforts during network outages or disruptions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of enterprise telecommunications systems, networking protocols, and utility communication technologies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on network performance, reliability, and operational excellence within a highly regulated environment.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in telecommunications, networking, network operations, or technical support.
  • Experience with Itron networking and communication solutions.
  • Experience working with MESH network environments.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and communication systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues and analyzing network performance problems.
  • Understanding of routers, network logs, and network monitoring tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical teams and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of end-to-end network communications from Point A to Point Z.
  • Bonus Qualifications:
    • CCNA certification or progress toward certification.
    • Exposure to utility telecommunications or operational technology (OT) environments.
    • Familiarity with vendor management and coordinating support activities with third-party providers.
    • Experience reviewing network logs, alarms, and performance metrics.
