What does a junior technical consultant do?

A Junior Technical Consultant is an entry-level professional who assists organizations in implementing and optimizing technical solutions, often working under the guidance of senior consultants. Their responsibilities typically include analyzing client requirements, configuring software or systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing support during project implementation. They also help prepare documentation, conduct testing, and sometimes train end-users. This role is ideal for individuals who have a background in technology and an interest in problem-solving within different business environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior technical consultant?

To thrive as a Junior Technical Consultant, you need foundational knowledge in IT systems, problem-solving abilities, and typically a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with CRM or ERP platforms, basic coding languages, and certifications like CompTIA or Salesforce are often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help in understanding client needs and collaborating with diverse teams. These skills and qualifications are vital to effectively support clients, deliver technical solutions, and grow in a consulting environment.

What are some typical challenges a junior technical consultant might face when transitioning from academia to client-facing projects?

Junior Technical Consultants often find the shift from academic settings to client-facing environments challenging due to the need to balance technical problem-solving with clear communication and client expectations. Unlike classroom projects, client work requires translating complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. Additionally, navigating project timelines, adapting quickly to new technologies, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams are common hurdles. Proactively seeking feedback from senior consultants and actively participating in team meetings can help smooth this transition.

Job description

Company Description

Choice Consulting Associates - who are we?

Firstly, we're an IT consulting company that delivers expert technical and business management services with a tireless commitment to customer success. But we're much more than that. We're leading a revolution in commitment to excellence in advancing the mission of national security. Through our services, we focus on the key aspects of changing and sustaining the way that national security organizations do business. We combine technical expertise, business acumen, innovative
solutions, and collaborative leadership to assess, change and improve client technology and work habits. We are establishing a reputation as a leading service provider in our market. We use inspired innovation to solve the most challenging problems.

At Choice Consulting Associates, we believe that our people and our culture are the backbone of our success and we try to live up to our values every day. We're looking for exceptional people to join our team and help spread our values. We have a great reputation and our customers want more of our talent!

Job Description
We're a small company, so be prepared to wear multiple hats. This job is primarily about using modern web technology to build robust mission applications.

Alongside our amazing team, our clients, and our partners, you will create, integrate, and sustain software modules within full stack web applications that support customer bases across agency enterprises. You will interface directly with customers to assess their business requirements and determine the optimal design. You will also provide engineering support for integration issues and software defects. We will expect you to ensure that our customers have the best possible solutions available to them for effectively meeting their mission goals.

There will be a healthy amount of direct interaction with our clients. Superior verbal and communication skills are required. You will need to be able to speak knowledgeably about complex technical issues to your engineering colleagues and document designs and architectures using modern modeling techniques. You will also need to be able to speak concisely and clearly to non-technical users and communicate business risks and impacts associated with alternative approaches.

The people who you will be supporting are busy and influential leaders. Not only will you build awesome mission applications, you will also seize opportunities to lead and help managers use technology to fundamentally transform their business. You will assess and analyze their data to understand how to organize and harness incoming information for efficient operations.

Qualifications
We want skilled technology and business majors with a talent for helping people.

Ideally you will have at least 6 months of experience working in an office, delivering solutions, supporting clients (internal or external) or even working in a call center. We really need smart and ambitious self-motivated individuals who have superior focus and attention to detail as you'll be representing our firm as embedded consultants directly within our clients' offices.

Additional Information
What's in it for you?

You will find that we provide a very competitive base salary.

Your benefits will include 4 weeks of vacation, 10 holidays, full health/dental insurance, 401k enrollment with 6% matching contributions, and wellness initiatives throughout the year.

We're big on professional development and we've got a strong coaching culture at Choice Consulting Associates. We believe in teamwork, collaboration and knowledge sharing as our fundamental ways of delivering solutions and solving problems.

The start date:

Because we support the national security community, you will need to complete a security clearance vetting process. This government run process can take from 3-9 months. You won't be able to start your first assignment until the process is successfully completed. It is ideal to enter the process while finishing your final two years of studies.
