Job description

Purpose and Impact:
In support of a challenging, critical, and rewarding program that provides integrated voice, video, and data services throughout the Information Technology lifecycle, Amentum is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team of IT professionals dedicated to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. You must be a critical thinker, have a strong work ethic, and be able to work independently or as a member of a team in a dynamic environment. We value candidates who are detail-oriented while also being able to think and react quickly to emerging and unique problem sets. To be successful, you must be able to rapidly adapt and learn how to operate the front and back end of new products and processes.
Work Schedule: • 5 Days (Mon – Fri); 8 hrs/Day; 40 hrs/wkly Essential Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Junior Systems Engineer include, but are not limited to the following:
• Maintain existing virtualized environments using VMware and Nutanix technologies. • Update and configure VMware ESXi hosts and Nutanix clusters, including storage, networking, and compute resources. • Manage virtual machine (VM) creation, provisioning, and lifecycle management on both platforms. • Monitor system health and performance metrics on VMware and Nutanix clusters, identify potential bottlenecks and proactively address issues. • Troubleshoot technical problems related to virtualization, storage, networking, and application performance across both platforms. • Develop, track, revise, and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of IT and computing resources and assure and sustain the integrity and security of network infrastructure.  • Diagnose and solve customer issues, manage customer accounts, establish, and repair customer accounts, and find ways to improve support procedures.  • Respond to end-users’ requests through email, telephone, and remote assistance.  • Respond to service requests as well as conduct, track, and report network systems and hardware accountability and materiel destruction.  • Use tools/utilities to provide remote technical support services on desk-side equipment.  • Maintain written documentation of incidents and escalate issues to the appropriate level of support as required by documented policies and procedures.  • Patch and maintain servers, workstations, storage area networks, etc.  • Deploy software through use of technologies such as SCCM.  • Conduct remote imaging and configurations of geographically separated systems.  • Provide advice and training to end-users, and guide and inform senior leadership.  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.  • Participate in special projects as required.  Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
• Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI  • 4 years of relevant experience  • Current DODD 8140/8570 IAT Level 2 certification (or higher) required (such as CCNA Security, Security+ CE, GICSP, GSEC, or SSCP)  • Experience with Windows Server 2019, VMware ESXi, Nutanix, and Active Directory • Deep understanding of VMware virtualization technologies (ESXi, vCenter, vSAN) • Expertise in Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) architecture and management tools.
• Must have experience with Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Dell Wyse thin clients (or similar hardware).
• Knowledge of network protocols and configuration. • Familiarity with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python). • Must be able to work a 40-hour work week, normally Monday through Friday.  • Ability to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last-minute requests for overtime if needed.  • Ability to travel (5-10%) primarily within 75 miles. • Familiarity with MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Project, and Visio.   • Exceptional attention to detail; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong critical thinking, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.     • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.  Security Clearance Required: Must have active Top-Secret clearance with SCI or TS with the ability to acquire SCI
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma Minimum Years of Experience: 4 years of relevant experience
Required Certifications: Must possess one of the following 8140 IAT Level II or III baseline certifications: • Level II certifications include – CCNA Security, GISCP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP
• Level III certifications include – CASP CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH
Preferred Qualifications: • Bachelors Degree in IT Related Field
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
• Nutanix NCP-MCI 6.5
• Experience with ServiceNow • Experience with ITIL
