Job description

Location: South Sioux City, NE Salary: $90,000.00 USD Annually - $110,000.00 USD Annually Description:
Our client, a growing multi-site food manufacturer, is looking for an Industrial Water Resource Engineer to own water and wastewater systems across their operations - from design strategy through implementation and ongoing optimization. This is a high-impact technical role supporting safe, efficient, and sustainable food production.
Location: Openings tied to facilities in the Sioux City, IA metro and Southwest Kansas. Relocation is available for candidates in other locations, and travel will be a required element of this position. Specific percentage of travel will be thoroughly discussed during interviews with company.
What You'll Do
Water Stewardship & System Management
  • Own end-to-end water resource management, from potable intake through wastewater discharge.
  • Build and maintain operating practices for water and wastewater systems company-wide.
  • Set water quality specifications and drive adoption of preferred water technologies in manufacturing.
  • Manage water conditioning, utility systems, and wastewater treatment infrastructure.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality
  • Maintain full compliance with local, state, and federal water regulations.
  • Partner on permitting, run audits, and manage sampling programs.
  • Keep data tracking and regulatory documentation accurate and current.

Project Leadership & Technical Consultation
  • Work cross-functionally to evaluate water and glycol technologies.
  • Lead new process rollouts and scale-up initiatives.
  • Support construction and remodel projects to keep water systems in compliance.
  • Write specifications, vet vendors, and guide purchasing decisions.

Analysis & Innovation
  • Perform technical assessments, design calculations, and data analysis.
  • Take water reuse projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Produce process flow diagrams, P&IDs, mass balances, and supporting documentation.
  • Run bench testing and pilot development programs.

What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in water systems engineering, operations, or leadership - food processing or similar industrial manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on background in water treatment processes and/or system design: coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, membrane filtration, biological treatment, disinfection.
  • Working knowledge of industrial wastewater pretreatment and primary treatment methods.
  • Experience developing and documenting operating practices for treatment systems.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency; HMI/SCADA understanding required. 2D/3D CAD skills and the ability to read electrical schematics are a plus.
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
  • A people-first leadership style, strong grasp of environmental regulations, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly at every level of the organization.

Work Environment
Manufacturing-based role with schedule flexibility, including occasional weekends. Travel between company facilities as needed. Collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
