Job description

The Electrical Superintendent oversees all field operations on JMS’ utility-sale and commercial solar construction sites, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. This role is responsible for coordinating all on-site construction activities and leading field personnel and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other construction staff to ensure the successful execution of solar projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Promote and enforce safety standards on-site, ensuring all team members understand and adhere to safety protocols and demonstrating safe behavior
  • Oversee daily field operations for solar construction projects
  • Lead and manage field crews, including subcontractors, providing direction, coordination and support throughout all phases of construction
  • Coordinate with the project manager to maintain project schedules, achieve productivity goals, and milestone completion dates
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure the quality and accuracy of work, identifying and resolving issues as they arise
  • Review project plans, specifications, and technical drawings to ensure work is completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications and applicable codes
  • Ensure proper electrical testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of systems before project handover
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment usages and material delivery to support efficient project execution
  • Prepare and maintain daily logs, reports, and documentation for project progress, issues, and resolutions
  • Coordinate with multiple trades (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) to ensure smooth workflow and avoid delays
  • Support project commissioning, testing, punch list completion and turnover activities
  • Maintain daily documentation including site logs, safety documentation, production tracking and progress updates
  • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff and apprentices, promoting teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience, with a focus on solar energy systems or similar renewable energy projects. Experience in utility-scale solar projects or large commercial solar installations preferred.
  • Previous experience in a management (Superintendent or above) role in solar construction is required.
  • First Aid, CPR, and OSHA 10 & 30-hour certifications are advantageous.

Required Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Proven experience in managing field teams, scheduling, site logistics, workforce planning and daily construction operations required
  • Strong knowledge of utility scale and commercial solar construction processes, best practices and industry standards
  • In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations, site safety requirements and safe work practices in the construction industry
  • Working knowledge of solar PV systems including foundations, racking systems, module installation, collection systems and commissioning activities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, and cost management
  • Valid Driver’s licenses and ability to travel to project sites as required
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Ability to communicate, work effectively with and provide leadership to a diverse team

 Work Environment:

  • This position involves both office-based tasks and regular travel to construction sites
  • When working at a job site this role may be exposed to site conditions such as hot or cold temperatures, outdoor elements, dust, fumes and loud noises.
  • On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. consistently and physically access all areas of the job site, including climbing ladders.
  • Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required based on project needs
