Overview

As a Junior Software Engineer you will be supporting mission-essential national security initiatives, you will design, develop, integrate, and maintain secure, high-performance software solutions that enable critical intelligence, defense, and operational missions. Working alongside engineers, analysts, and mission stakeholders, you will build scalable applications and services that directly support the protection of U.S. national security interests.

This position requires a strong foundation in modern software engineering practices, the ability to work in highly collaborative Agile environments, and a commitment to developing resilient, secure, and reliable solutions for complex operational challenges. Successful candidates are passionate about solving difficult technical problems while delivering capabilities that have real-world mission impact.

This role is based in Hanover, Maryland. This position may be eligible for hybrid opportunities, working up to two days remote each week.

Eligible candidates may receive a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000, making this an exceptional opportunity to join a mission-critical team supporting national security initiatives.


What will you do?
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
  • Debug existing software and correct defects using Python and C++
  • Create and maintain a scalable, high-availability, mission system using modern system design principles.
  • Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
  • Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
  • Generate automation scripts as appropriate to improve workflow and efficiency.

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Bachelor's Degree with Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline. 
  • Four (4) years of RF Software or equivalent experience on projects with similar software processes may be 
    substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of experience as a DSP Algorithm developer on projects with similar software processes.
  • Four years of experience with C++, Linux, Python, or similar development language.
  •  Active IAT II CWIP / DoD 8570 compliant cert (i.e., Security+) preferred

VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $120,000-$190,000 annually, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
