Job description

MPG delivers radio frequency (RF) spectrum-centric solutions at the speed of technology. Civilian government, military and commercial customers rely on MPG's deep engineering expertise, and scalable manufacturing capability to deliver what they need, when they need it. MPG operates engineering and manufacturing facilities in:  Austin, TX;  Columbia, MD;  Ventura, CA;  West Chester, OH;  Salisbury, MD; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and York, United Kingdom.

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

As a Software Engineer at MPG, you will be part of a small but growing team responsible for creating state-of-the-art systems that provide critical signals intelligence to government customers. You will work with other engineers to enhance, test, and maintain a Linux C++ software architecture that captures high-bandwidth signal data from antennas and records the data to long-term digital storage. You will be designing and implementing innovative algorithms that help our customers visualize and understand complex signal environments. You will have the opportunity to keep up with latest advances in radio sensor equipment, computing hardware, operating systems, DSP techniques, machine learning, and other software technologies as we constantly adapt in a fast-moving environment and increase the value of our products. 

Duties (includes but not limited to): 

  • Design, implement, and test software in C++ Linux environment 

  • Support designing, developing, and maintaining software for embedded systems, ensuring it meets the    hardware and software requirements. 

  • Work closely with hardware engineers and other software developers to integrate software with hardware components. 

  • Coordinate with engineering team, field support team, and customers to design and prioritize new features and bug fixes 

  • Hands on testing and deployment support for world-wide customers 

  • Stay current of industry advances and professional education, embrace the emergence of new technologies. 

  • Work independently with sound professional judgement to overcome obstacles and complete tasks on time by leveraging collaboration, delegation, and leadership skills. 

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical areas: (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics);  

  • Proficient in designing and implementing sophisticated large-scale software systems using C++ in a Linux environment (3+ years). Comfortable with scripting in bash and python. Experience with high-performance TCP and UDP network communications.  

  • Working knowledge of applied signal processing (filtering, data transforms, multi-dimensional signal processing, data visualization) 

  • Eagerness to learn and rapidly apply new skills 

  • Preferred: Experience with software management tools (git, JIRA) 

  • Preferred: Experience with signal acquisition hardware (tuners, digitizers, VITA49 etc.) 

  • Preferred: In-depth understanding of timing services (GPS, NTP) 

  • Preferred: Familiarity with Machine Learning/Computer Vision/CUDA 

  • Preferred: Familiarity with docker and other containerization technology 

  • Preferred: Familiarity with MongoDB or other database technologies 

  • Preferred: Experience with JavaScript/NodeJS/React 

  • Preferred: Familiarity with embedded devices (ARM, FPGA, etc) 

  • Preferred: Willingness to travel 2-3 times per year  

  • Preferred: Consideration for TS/SCI security clearance  

  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to clearly present information through the spoken and written word with all levels of an organization. 

  • Planning and Organization Skills: Demonstrated ability to organize or schedule activities and tasks, while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability. 

  • Teamwork Skills: Demonstrated ability to work with people in such a manner as to achieve common goals, objectives, and group commitments. 

  • Decision Making and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability in solving problems while exhibiting judgments and a realistic understanding of issues.
