What is a junior RTL design engineer?

Junior RTL Design Engineers are entry-level professionals who work on designing and verifying the Register Transfer Level (RTL) logic for digital integrated circuits. They typically use hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL to describe and simulate the functionality of hardware blocks according to specifications. Their responsibilities often include coding, simulation, debugging, and collaborating with senior engineers to ensure the design meets performance and functional requirements. This role is crucial in the process of creating chips and digital systems used in various electronic devices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior RTL design engineer?

To thrive as a Junior RTL Design Engineer, a solid background in digital logic design, hardware description languages (such as Verilog or VHDL), and a relevant engineering degree are essential. Experience with simulation and synthesis tools (like ModelSim, Synopsys, or Xilinx Vivado) and a basic understanding of ASIC or FPGA flows are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective teamwork skills help individuals excel in translating specifications into efficient hardware designs. These skills ensure accurate, reliable, and high-performance digital circuit development, which is crucial for meeting project goals and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by junior RTL design engineers when transitioning from academic projects to industry roles?

Junior RTL Design Engineers often find the transition from academic projects to industry roles challenging due to the increased complexity and scale of commercial designs. In industry, there is a strong emphasis on meeting strict timing, power, and area requirements, as well as adhering to rigorous verification and documentation standards. Collaboration with verification, physical design, and software teams is essential, and juniors may need to quickly adapt to using industry-standard EDA tools and workflows. Gaining proficiency in debugging and understanding legacy codebases are also typical hurdles. However, most teams provide mentorship and structured onboarding to help new engineers succeed.

What is the difference between Junior Rtl Design Engineer vs Digital Design Engineer?

AspectJunior Rtl Design EngineerDigital Design Engineer

About Greenlink Energy Solutions

Greenlink Energy Solutions is building the next generation of commercial clean energy infrastructure—designed for performance, resilience, and long-term value.
We partner with organizations to develop and integrate intelligent energy systems that reduce risk, control costs, and strengthen operational independence. Our work spans solar PV, energy storage, HVAC modernization, and energy optimization—aligned around one core principle: real-world outcomes backed by engineering discipline and lifecycle accountability.
We are not simply a contractor. We serve as developer, integrator, and long-term strategic partner—bringing together technical rigor, financial alignment, and operational control to ensure projects perform as intended over time.
As we scale, we are building a disciplined and repeatable commercial platform—one that prioritizes ownership, integration, and long-term system performance. We seek professionals who are energized by growth, value sound judgment, and want to help shape the future of commercial clean energy delivery.
About This Role

The Senior Solar Project Engineer plays a critical technical leadership role within Greenlink’s commercial operations. This position owns the engineering quality, constructability, and performance of commercial and complex solar PV projects across the full project lifecycle.
This is not a high-volume drafting role. The Senior Engineer is expected to exercise independent engineering judgment, guide design decisions, identify and mitigate technical risk, and support project teams from early feasibility through installation and commissioning.
What You’ll Do

Engineering Leadership & Design
  • Lead system design for commercial and complex solar PV projects, including system sizing, equipment selection, and electrical configuration
  • Evaluate site conditions, electrical infrastructure, and interconnection requirements to inform optimal system layouts
  • Review and approve engineering plan sets for accuracy, constructability, performance, and code compliance
Guide equipment selection for modules, inverters, BOS components, and energy storage, where applicable
  • Ensure designs meet AHJ, utility, and applicable code requirements while balancing cost, performance, and schedule
Performance & Risk Management
  • Develop, validate, and refine production and performance estimates
  • Identify technical risks and design constraints early and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for design-related issues during installation and commissioning
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation and system records
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Installation teams to align engineering decisions with commercial and execution goals
  • Provide technical guidance on system feasibility, constructability, and equipment compatibility
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, and workflows
Mentorship & Continuous Improvement
  • Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers and reviewers
  • Stay current on codes, technologies, and industry best practices
  • Contribute to scalable design standards that support long-term growth
What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in solar PV engineering, system design, or technical leadership
  • Strong experience with commercial solar projects; utility-scale experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own engineering decisions across the project lifecycle
  • Deep understanding of PV systems, electrical design, inverters, and balance-of-system components
  • Proficiency with solar design, modeling, and CAD tools
  • Familiarity with permitting, AHJ requirements, and utility interconnection processes
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
Preferred / Nice to Have
  • NABCEP PV Design certification
  • Experience with battery storage or EV infrastructure integration
  • Experience supporting TPO or financed commercial projects
  • Prior responsibility for reviewing or guiding third-party engineering deliverables
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $95,000–$120,000, depending on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Life insurance
Why This Role at Greenlink
