Job description

SCMI1 has an exciting opportunity for a Jr. Submarine Ordnance Technician position focused on the ability to assess equipment, and perform assessments as required of ordnance and non-ordnance related equipment for Submarine components coming and going from Navy public and commercial shipyards and U.S. Naval facilities.
Location:  MARMC: Naval Station Norfolk - Norfolk, VA 23511 Job Description/Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Certification Program:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and certification of all PSSE equipment, Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platforms, weapon cradles, and ballast cans.  Assessment and corrective maintenance if needed.
  • Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platform (R-10) preventive maintenance requires blasting & paint of entire platform to accomplish. Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platform corrective maintenance includes but is not limited to replacing damage or missing hardware, replace or repairing bent grab rails or structural beams, repair gratings, repair support legs, repair corrosion damage and repair or replace aluminum bronze bushings.
  • Schedule and conduct preventative maintenance IAW current directives for all 688 and VA and Columbia Class platforms.
  • Assist and perform approved Depot level maintenance as assigned by the TYCOM and the concurrence of the ISEA. Maintenance/repair engineering Support.
  • Schedule PMS and maintenance per technical manual, PMS Schedule, Drawings and Test Loads Methods Drawing (TLMD).
  • Maintain certification by performing required maintenance and minor repairs per PMS, technical manuals, Drawings, and TLMD, in addition to, documenting all maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain HAZMAT lockers IAW OSHA directives to contain all HAZMAT required to perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Maintain a database of location and maintenance status (condition code) for all submarine Non Ordnance equipment.
  • Routine Operational Support:
  • Vertical Launch System (VLS) and VPT Loading and Maintenance Platforms: Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance. Support all shipping and receiving evolutions.
  • AURVS/AURES, Mk 60 AUR's, Crew Training Shapes (CTS), TOTEMS, Torpedo Shapes: Support all handling services (canning, un-canning, moving), including shipping and receiving evolutions. Conduct any required stenciling of the containers prior to shipping.
  • Mk 101 & Mk 112: Support all testing, installation, and handling services, including shipping and receiving evolutions. Conduct any required testing, installation and removal for AURS.
  • Ballast Cans and AURBb's: Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance. Support all required shipping and receiving evolutions. Support storage and inventory management of Missile Tube Ballast Cans and AURBb's including the construction of storage chocks.
  • Perform the on-load and off-load of 688 Class, Virginia and Columbia Class PSSE and non-ordnance equipment to and from trailers, trucks and submarines and Pier 3, CEP-204 and local contractor facilities.
  • Non Ordnance Handling Support:
  • Provide Non-Ordnance Technical Support on waterfront (Pier Services) expertise during the delivery, loading/off-loading, and storage of applicable equipment, inert components and all associated handling/support equipment. Provide support to ordnance handling team during all Pier handling evolutions, verifying all handling equipment, associated lifting equipment and non-ordnance equipment and vehicles, such as forklifts, bomb carts, etc. have the proper maintenance completed and current certification. Provide SME support for Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platform, ballast cans, AURES, AURS, AURVS, TOTEMS, and MK 48 shapes handling evolutions and verify all items are prepared and loaded on appropriate transfer vehicle to support scheduled handling evolutions.
  • Perform all non-ordnance handling evolutions in support of submarines berthed at shipyards. Support NSSF New London during non-ordnance handling evolutions when requested.
  • Provide assistance with the transportation of hull owned equipment ( i.e. the VACL Berthing Module) to/from the waterfront for use by submarines.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A minimum of 2 years full-time hands-on technical experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, and/or repair of Submarine Non-Ordnance Handling systems. Experience shall have been gained within the last 10 years.
  • Ability to assess equipment, and perform assessments as required of ordnance and non-ordnance related equipment for Submarine components.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain security clearance and clearing necessary background checks/assessments as required.  Active high-level Security Clearance will be required, and current Security Clearance is desired.
  • Physical requirements for efficient navigation aboard US Navy vessels includes possessing the physical stamina, strength, agility, and endurance to walk continuously for extended periods of time, climb ladders, stairs, ramps, and work aloft.
