Junior Software Engineer – GCCS-J
Location: Newport News, VA – On-site Full-Time Required
Position Type: Full-Time
Clearance Requirement: Active Secret Clearance
Program: Global Command and Control System – Joint (GCCS-J)
Program Summary
GCCS-J is the DoD’s Joint Command and Control system of record, delivering a fused, real-time operational picture to commanders and warfighters. The modernization effort emphasizes cloud-native software engineering, microservices, advanced data ingestion and synchronization, improved data models, and enhanced user experience to support JADC2-aligned mission objectives.
Position Summary
The Junior Software Engineer supports the GCCS-J modernization team by developing software features, documenting results, assisting with data workflows, and learning system architecture and engineering practices under senior guidance. Key Responsibilities
Area Responsibilities
Software Development Support • Implement basic software components. • Follow coding standards and best practices.
Data Workflow Support • Assist with data ingestion and transformation tasks.
Architecture & Design Assistance • Support design discussions and documentation.
Automation & CI/CD Assistance • Assist with automated tests and CI/CD tasks.
Agile Participation • Attend Sprint ceremonies.
• Support acceptance criteria validation.
Team Collaboration • Work with senior engineers and testers.
User-Focused Development Assistance • Support validation of basic workflows. Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in STEM.
• 0–2 years of software engineering experience.
• Familiarity with software development concepts.
• Basic scripting or automation exposure.
• Active Secret clearance. Preferred Qualifications
• Exposure to DoD systems or C2 environments.
• Familiarity with Linux/UNIX.
• Understanding of APIs or microservices. Desired Competencies
