Position Overview

This is a strong opportunity for a mechanical engineer with deep P&ID and power plant design experience to step into a senior technical role supporting complex energy and infrastructure projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the development of mechanical systems for power generation facilities, including piping systems, balance-of-plant equipment, pressure vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, and integrated process systems.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, multidisciplinary coordination, and hands-on problem-solving across the full project lifecycle. You will work closely with electrical, civil, controls, and process teams while developing design documentation, reviewing system layouts, supporting construction and commissioning, and mentoring junior engineers. The right candidate will bring strong mechanical design judgment, practical field awareness, and the ability to deliver reliable systems in demanding power plant environments.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant systems

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for thermal, combined-cycle, renewable, and balance-of-plant systems

  • Design and support piping systems, pressure vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, equipment layouts, and mechanical process systems

  • Evaluate and specify mechanical equipment, materials, and system components for performance, reliability, safety, and maintainability

  • Prepare engineering calculations, datasheets, technical specifications, design packages, and construction deliverables

  • Coordinate with electrical, civil, controls, process, and project management teams to ensure fully integrated system designs

  • Review piping layouts, equipment arrangements, process system interfaces, and constructability considerations

  • Support project schedules, cost estimates, risk reviews, and technical planning efforts

  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers

  • Conduct field visits to evaluate existing systems, verify site conditions, and support construction-phase decisions

  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and project closeout

  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable industry codes, safety standards, project requirements, and engineering best practices

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project quality

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline

  • Experience: Multiple years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong focus on P&ID development, power plant design, process systems, or heavy industrial facilities

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical systems within power generation facilities, including piping, process systems, pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and balance-of-plant equipment

  • P&ID Experience: Proven ability to develop, review, and update Process and Instrumentation Diagrams for complex mechanical and process systems

  • Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or similar mechanical/process design tools

  • Codes & Standards: Working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, and other applicable mechanical and process design standards

  • Project Delivery: Ability to produce calculations, specifications, datasheets, design documentation, and construction deliverables

  • Communication: Strong written, verbal, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination skills

  • Field Support: Ability to support field visits, construction coordination, commissioning, and startup activities as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure quickly

  • Power Generation: Experience with thermal power, combined-cycle plants, renewable generation, substations, or utility infrastructure projects

  • Piping Design: Experience with piping isometrics, equipment layout, pipe routing, and process system integration

  • Industrial Experience: Background in pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage, water/wastewater, oil and gas, or other process-driven industrial environments

  • Construction Support: Experience supporting construction administration, commissioning, startup, field troubleshooting, or plant modifications

  • Leadership: Experience mentoring junior engineers, leading design reviews, or coordinating technical deliverables across disciplines

  • Risk & Cost Awareness: Experience supporting project cost estimates, schedules, technical risk reviews, and constructability assessments
