Position Overview

The Lead Software Product Owner works in a highly dynamic environment, engaging and coordinating the activities with internal stakeholders, enterprise architects, software developers, quality assurance, customer experience, contractors, and third-party vendors to drive flawless development of critical software products. This role will gather, define, and translate user needs and business requirements into viable software product requirements across the software development lifecycle. As we operate in a regulated Genomics CLIA laboratory, producing clear and concise requirements and documentation is of the utmost importance.

This position requires significant experience and technical knowledge in developing complex and sophisticated clinical genomics software and proven success driving software development initiatives by collaborating with cross-functional team members (Clinical Development, Laboratory Operations, Medical Affairs, Bioinformatics, Engineer, etc.) to ensure software product meet user and business needs. This person is comfortable with leveraging data to make product decisions and has proven experience analyzing and optimizing user experience and business processes. This person may lead and mentor junior product owners.

Essential Duties

  • Include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serve as a central resource to evaluate, develop, and recommend technical software solutions during the product lifecycle throughout conceptualization, product roadmap development, execution, and launch based on a deep understanding of business goals, user needs, and jobs-to-be-done.
  • Proactively understand the current business processes and conceptualize innovative solutions to create efficiencies around them.
  • Drive and track execution of product strategy and roadmap by creation of release plans, and lead sprint grooming, sprint planning, and successful software delivery.
  • Gather and define user needs business requirements and translate them into epics and a prioritized backlog of user stories with functional software requirements to guide software development to support clinical genomics sample-to-answer workflows.
  • Analyze existing product requirements against unmet user needs, current pain points, and business opportunities and devise product growth strategies for implementation of new features and processes into the product lifecycle, in the lens of excellent user experience.
  • Analyze, manage, and track the status of requirements throughout the product and development lifecycle; enforce and redefine, as necessary.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and project team to define, prioritize, and complete software product strategy, roadmap, and product requirements.
  • Produce flow diagrams, process and dataflow maps, wireframes, and prototypes with detailed product requirements to facilitate a better understanding of end-user use cases, pain points, and opportunities to guide the software development team.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirement documentation, user documentation, and presentations to end-users, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Provide business area expertise to developers and software quality assurance (QA) during the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Provide insight to the Quality Assurance (QA) team to develop verification, integration, and validation test plans and protocols.
  • Maintain business systems standards by applying Agile methods, tools, and processes as standard practice.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills in communicating and collaborating with colleagues, customers, and external collaborators from a wide variety of scientific, engineering, operational, and regulatory disciplines at many different levels.
  • Work in collaboration with the team to create documentation for software development lifecycle (SDLC) and computer systems validation (CSV) efforts.
  • Provide end-user support in response to service requests, as needed.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or field as outlined in the essential duties; or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or field as outlined in the essential duties plus 2 years of experience in lieu of a Master's degree.
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience as outlined in the essential duties.
  • 5+ years of experience in Agile/Scrum or equivalent software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring product/project to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing complex and sophisticated software and informatics solution to support next generation sequencing workflows.
  • 1+ years of managing and coaching a team.
  • Possess excellent strategic and analytical capabilities and strong business and technical acumen.
  • Exhibits effective communication through various forms or written and verbal communication to team members who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Jira, Confluence, JAMA, Miro, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work on multiple software development products/projects at the same time.
  • Capacity to pivot promptly and efficiently when project adjustments and alterations arise.

The base pay for this position is $114,000.00 – $228,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
