Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline

Description

Altus Technology Solutions is seeking a Junior Mechanical/Industrial Engineer to support Engineering Change and Modernization Projects (ECMP), Cast Products operations, and Explosive Production activities at Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD).

This position supports engineering, manufacturing, facility modernization, and production initiatives associated with energetics manufacturing operations and national defense programs. The successful candidate will assist with engineering analysis, equipment design, manufacturing support, commissioning activities, and technical documentation supporting critical manufacturing and production systems.

The Junior Mechanical/Industrial Engineer will work alongside senior engineers, manufacturing personnel, project managers, and government stakeholders to support modernization efforts, improve manufacturing operations, and contribute to engineering projects throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is critical to supporting the safe and efficient operation of energetics manufacturing facilities through engineering support, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Engineering Change and Modernization Projects (ECMP) involving manufacturing systems, facilities, and equipment upgrades.

  • Provide engineering support for Cast Products and Explosive Production operations.

  • Assist with design, evaluation, and improvement of manufacturing equipment, production systems, and facility infrastructure.

  • Support engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution activities associated with manufacturing and production environments.

  • Assist with development and review of engineering drawings, technical documentation, specifications, and reports.

  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and validation activities for new and upgraded equipment and systems.

  • Participate in engineering assessments, design reviews, and project planning activities.

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • Support development and maintenance of technical data packages (TDPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engineering documentation.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, and project teams to support project objectives and production requirements.

  • Assist with facility modernization efforts and implementation of engineering changes.

  • Support investigations of equipment failures and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, engineering requirements, and customer specifications.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant engineering experience

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and technical problem-solving methodologies

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or production environments

  • Experience supporting facility modernization or engineering change projects

  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, testing, or validation activities

  • Experience supporting energetics, explosives, ammunition, or defense-related manufacturing operations
