Job description

Salary:

The Senior Piping Materials Engineer plays a key role in defining, selecting, and providing technical guidance on piping materials for major industrial projects, with a strong emphasis on experience in U.S. LNG production facilities. This position supports engineering design, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities, ensuring all work aligns with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications. Office is located in Houston, TX.


Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Lead the full piping materials scope for assigned projects, including coordination with global execution centers.
  • Establish, manage, and monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Track progress throughout project execution and provide regular updates.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineering teams, and clients to clarify objectives and define scope.


Engineering

  • Create, update, and maintain piping material specifications, classes, and datasheets for LNG and related facilities.
  • Offer expert guidance on material selection for piping systems, including carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and specialty materials.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes and standards (ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASTM, API, MSS, NFPA 59A).
  • Review and approve vendor documentation, material submissions, and technical deviations.
  • Oversee the checking and release of piping deliverables for downstream use.
  • Support procurement activities by preparing requisitions and evaluating vendor bids.
  • Collaborate with stress, process, mechanical, and construction teams to confirm material compatibility and constructability.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
  • Conduct failure investigations and recommend corrective measures when necessary.
  • Participate in design reviews and constructability assessments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to ongoing process improvements.


Team Leadership

  • Supervise and guide junior engineers and designers.
  • Lead routine design reviews and ensure alignment across engineering disciplines.
  • Promote a collaborative, efficient, and high-performing team environment.


Coordination and Communication

  • Interface with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process safety teams to ensure seamless integration of piping systems.
  • Review and approve vendor drawings.
  • Take part in design reviews, HAZOP sessions, and project presentations.
  • Address technical inquiries and manage design changes effectively.


Quality Assurance

  • Implement quality control practices and conduct periodic design audits.
  • Verify that all deliverables meet project requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Identify and mitigate risks that could affect project execution.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 815+ years of experience in piping materials engineering.


Technical Skills

  • Proven experience with LNG facilities or cryogenic service applications.
  • Strong understanding of piping codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, API, etc.).
  • Expertise in material selection for lowtemperature and corrosive environments.
  • Familiarity with MTOs, specifications, and procurement workflows.
  • Strong analytical abilities and effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of NDE and piping system testing requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with valve selection and specification is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and sound decisionmaking.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced setting.


Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, problemsolving, and organizational skills.

Additional Skills

  • Experience with U.S. Gulf Coast LNG projects.

  • Experience working on international projects or with multicultural teams is beneficial.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
