Job Description


Turner & Townsend are looking for an experienced Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a large-scale mission-critical data center construction project. This role will serve as a key client-facing position, providing cost management, commercial guidance, and quantity surveying services throughout the project lifecycle to help ensure successful project delivery.

To be successful in this role, you must have strong communication skills and be comfortable operating in a client-facing environment. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, driven, and able to work independently as well as part of a team while promoting Turner & Townsend's purpose, values, and vision.
Responsibilities:

  • Estimating and negotiating change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Provide estimating, cost planning, and commercial management services, including producing and presenting final cost plans.
  • Review and participate with design teams and contractors in the development of project cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes and assist contractors in validating quantity and pricing information.
  • Meet with project stakeholders to gather status updates and prepare cost estimate updates and forecasts.
  • Prepare written comments and executive summaries on contractor submissions.
  • Coordinate all sources of cost information, including contractor pricing, supplier quotations, subcontractor proposals, and design team quantities.
  • Provide commercial input on design decisions, value engineering opportunities, and cost impacts.
  • Manage cost checks, valuations, forecasting activities, and commitment tracking on large and complex projects.
  • Support contingency management, risk tracking, change control, and post-contract cost management processes.
  • Prepare funding presentations and participate in value engineering workshops with project stakeholders.
  • Develop cost plans and estimates throughout design and construction, updating costs at key project milestones.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor pricing and lead commercial negotiations on behalf of the client.
  • Perform quantity surveying, cost controls, change management, and cost validation activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce monthly cost reports and presentations for client review.
  • Ensure final accounts are negotiated and agreed upon in a timely manner.
  • Maintain benchmarking data and historical cost records to support future projects.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
  • Utilize company systems and tools to manage project financial performance, resource planning, and reporting.
  • Champion best practices, company methodologies, and a culture of collaboration and service excellence.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role and are to be adhered to where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related construction discipline.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in cost management, quantity surveying, commercial management, or project controls within the construction industry.
  • Experience leading cost management services on medium to large-scale construction projects, preferably within mission-critical, data center, industrial, commercial, or other complex construction environments.
  • Construction consultancy experience is strongly preferred.
  • RICS accreditation or progress toward accreditation is preferred.
  • Good understanding of construction industry technical matters, including estimating, procurement strategies, value management, value engineering, and change management.
  • Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
