Job description


Be part of a team responsible for the mechanical design, simulation, analysis and test of fans and compressors (FanC) in gas turbine engine (turbomachinery) applications within Honeywell Aerospace Engines and Power Systems
You will support currently fielded products and contribute towards development of new products for a variety of turbofan, turboshaft and auxiliary power unit (APU) applications
You will apply principles of design, physics, mathematics and software development to perform a broad variety of engineering tasks
You will contribute to continuous improvement of design, analysis and simulation methods
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities within Fan and Compressor team
  • Lead activities related to mechanical design of rotating and static turbomachinery components such as rotors, stators, blisks, disks and impellers
  • Lead design and analysis tasks including modal, vibration, deflection, crack growth, burst, fatigue, thermal and stack analysis with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as a core responsibility
    • Lead testing of components and engine modules in various lifecycle stages (rig, development, production) and perform data reduction/analysis on test data
    • Generate documentation capturing engineering results and findings following design, simulation, analysis and test activities
    • Oversee generation and presentation of engineering artifacts during structured design reviews
    • Lead technical mentoring, process/tool improvement and knowledge capture efforts
    • Lead teams of junior engineers in performing day-to-day technical tasks
    • Lead proposal activities supporting various commercial and military customers

Qualifications
U.S. Person Requirements
Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.
Must Have
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience in mechanical design and analysis of aerospace components
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience working with turbomachinery components
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience with FEA software ANSYS APDL or ANSYS Mechanical

We Value
  • A PhD or M.S. in aerospace or mechanical engineering
  • Experience with AI/ML, adjoint optimization, surrogate modeling and multidisciplinary optimization within the gas turbine engine domain
  • Familiarity w/ manufacturing methods and field support of gas turbine engines
  • Problem solving proficiency w/ root cause analysis (RCCA) experience
  • CAD modeling experience (e.g. NX, UG, Solidworks, CATIA)
  • Advanced experience with either MATLAB, Python or C++ scripting
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery test methodologies such as strain gages, light probes and kulites
  • Strong writing, speaking and presenting skills
