Job description

Position Description:

Aviation & Missile Solutions, LLC. (AMS) is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our diverse team, in Huntsville, AL., to create unique solutions for complex problems. AMS provides responsive, cost-effective engineering and scientific solutions ranging from air and missile defense technologies, command and control, radar systems, seekers, modeling & simulation, and prototype hardware development and testing. The Engineer in this role will assist our engineering team in modernizing defense and enterprise software systems. You will work closely with senior developers to containerize Java-based UI applications to run heedlessly in isolated environments and automate the deployment and scaling of multiple Docker containers across development and testing environments.

Location:

  • Redstone Arsenal / Huntsville, AL (On-Site)
  • Position is full-time in the office.

Basic Responsibilities/ Qualifications:

  • Java Headless Execution: Configure and package Java applications to execute successfully in headless mode within Docker containers.
  • Containerization & Deployment: Write and optimize Dockerfiles to build secure container images.
  • Multi-Container Orchestration: Deploy, manage, and scale multiple Docker containers simultaneously using Docker Compose.
  • CI/CD Automation: Assist with setting up and maintaining automated build and deployment pipelines to streamline container releases.
  • Collaboration: Participate in agile team sprints, code reviews, and technical documentation creation.

Preferred Skill/ Abilities:

  • CI/CD pipeline development experience.
  • Basic understanding of Kubernetes for scaling containerized workloads.
  • Experience with Javafx, Gradle build systems
  • Familiarity with Cloud platforms like AWS or Azure

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Programming: 0-2 years of hands-on experience with Core Java (OOPs, Collections, Exception Handling).
  • Container Fundamentals: Practical knowledge of creating Docker containers and using Docker Compose.
  • Headless/OS Concepts: Familiarity with running applications without a graphical display in Linux-based environments.
  • Version Control: Experience using Git / GitLab for source code management.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the year.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
