Job Summary:**
As a Lead Automation Engineer at Jabil, Inc., you will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced automation solutions across our manufacturing facilities. This role involves leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement in our automation strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities:**
* Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex automation systems, including robotics, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks.
* Manage automation projects from concept to completion, including scope definition, resource allocation, budget management, and timeline adherence.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, process engineering, IT, and quality assurance, to identify automation opportunities and integrate solutions.
* Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for proposed automation initiatives.
* Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, programming logic, test plans, and operational procedures.
* Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior automation engineers, fostering their growth and development.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation system issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
* Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing innovative solutions.
* Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
* Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for process optimization and efficiency gains through automation.
Job Qualifications:**
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
* 8+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong focus on PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi), HMI development, and robotic integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB).
* Proven experience leading automation projects from conception to successful implementation.
* Expertise in industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
* Strong understanding of control systems theory, mechatronics, and vision systems.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for electrical and mechanical design.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
* Ability to travel as needed to support various Jabil manufacturing sites.
* Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, UL, CE) related to automation and industrial safety.
