What is a junior full stack developer?

A Junior Full Stack Developer is an entry-level software professional who works on both the front-end and back-end parts of web applications. They are skilled in basic programming languages and frameworks needed for creating user interfaces as well as handling server-side logic and databases. Typically, juniors work under the guidance of more experienced developers, assisting with coding, debugging, and testing tasks while gradually building their expertise. Their role often involves learning and adapting to new technologies as they gain experience in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior full stack developer?

To thrive as a Junior Full Stack Developer, you need a solid understanding of both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end (Node.js, Python, Java, or similar) programming, typically supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and frameworks such as React or Express is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure you can contribute effectively to diverse projects, adapt to evolving technologies, and collaborate within development teams.

How do junior full stack developers typically balance learning new technologies with meeting project deadlines?

As a Junior Full Stack Developer, you’ll often juggle learning new frameworks or languages while contributing to active projects. Many teams support this by pairing juniors with more experienced developers, offering code reviews, and allocating time for professional development within sprint cycles. While deadlines are important, managers usually recognize the learning curve and provide guidance to help you prioritize tasks and grow your skills without being overwhelmed. Open communication with your team about your progress and challenges is key to maintaining this balance.

Founded in 2017, our platform provides advanced financial analytics, trade flow insights, and portfolio management tools that empower our clients to make faster and more informed decisions while improving operational efficiency.
Valitana was awarded the 2026 Deal Catalyst CLO Award for Best CLO & Technology Provider – Innovation and serves approximately 100 institutional clients including CLO investors, CLO managers, hedge funds, asset managers, insurance companies, family offices, and broker dealers.
Position Overview
Valitana is seeking a Full Stack Developer with a UI/front-end focus to help build and scale Vantage, our multi-asset trade and portfolio management platform used by institutional investors to manage complex financial workflows. This role will focus on designing and delivering intuitive, high-performance user interfaces while maintaining close collaboration with backend services and APIs.
The ideal candidate brings experience building modern, responsive web applications, strong UX sensibilities, and the ability to translate complex financial workflows into clean, scalable, and user-friendly interfaces. This individual will work closely with product managers, backend engineers, and client-facing teams to ensure Vantage delivers a seamless and reliable user experience for both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain user-facing web applications with a strong emphasis on usability, performance, and visual consistency.
  • Collaborate closely with backend engineers to integrate APIs and data services.
  • Translate complex product and business requirements into clear, intuitive UI workflows.
  • Develop reusable components, design systems, and front-end patterns to ensure scalability and consistency across the platform.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and client-facing teams to iterate on features and improve user experience.
  • Write and maintain automated tests (unit and UI) to ensure code quality and application stability.
  • Troubleshoot UI issues, optimize performance, and proactively identify UX or technical improvements.
  • Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and engineering best practices across the Vantage Technology team.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a Full Stack Developer or Front-End-focused Engineer in the FinTech or technology space.
  • Proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and front-end technologies (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
  • Experience with front-end frameworks, component libraries, and state management patterns.
  • Working knowledge of backend systems, APIs, and data integration to effectively collaborate across the stack.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and cross-functional product teams.
  • Experience building responsive, data-driven, client-facing applications.
  • Self-starter with a strategic mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Understanding of financial products or complex data-heavy platforms (structured products a plus).

What We Offer
The base salary range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000. Valitana offers a competitive compensation package which includes base salary and an annual performance bonus. Employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes an employer matched retirement plan, healthcare with medical, dental, vision, telemedicine, and PTO.
