Description The City of Moreno Valley seeks a highly motivated, energetic individual to join a high-performing team. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Financial & Management Services Department. This position will be on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

THE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Accountant ensures the City's financial integrity by overseeing complex accounting, financial analysis, and budget operations. This role ensures compliance with government standards, prepares financial reports, conducts audits, and provides fiscal analysis to support decision-making.

As a key financial resource, the Senior Accountant leads projects, mentors staff, and collaborates with department heads to improve operations. Their expertise delivers accurate reporting, strategic budgeting, and effective management of special funds. This position performs advanced accounting and analysis, maintains financial records and systems, and supports operational and financial planning by reviewing, monitoring, and reconciling assigned accounts, programs, and activities.

MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field; OR, equivalent related work experience; AND A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a City or governmental agency.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Senior Accountant is the advanced professional journey-level classification of the finance/accounting job family that serves as an experienced resource to City managers and staff. This class performs professional accounting and financial work ranging from moderate difficulty to complex.

Assignments require professional judgment and thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial management practices. A Senior Accountant may be assigned lead responsibility for cross-functional projects and may guide the work of lower-level professional and technical accounting staff. Senior Accountant is distinguished from Accountant in that employees in the former class perform more complex accounting and analyses of greater significance and impact on the operations and management of the City.

ABOUT THE FINANCIAL & MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT The Financial & Management Services Department manages the City's finances and safeguards its assets. We provide a wide range of support services to other City departments including budget coordination; financial reporting; payroll; billing and accounts receivable; purchasing and central stores; accounts payable; cash management and investing; business licensing and cashiering; technology services including network administration and security, enterprise systems and database administration, geographic information systems, backbone infrastructure and telecommunications; and maintenance service for all City facilities.

THE SELECTION PROCESS Applicants possessing the MOST DESIRABLE qualifications at each level, based on a screening of required application materials, including the completed Supplemental Questionnaire, will be invited to continue in the selection process. Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure. Eligible List: Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates.
