Position Overview
MetroSys is seeking a dependable and motivated Data Center Technician I to support the day-to-day operations of a mission-critical data center environment in Portland, OR. This role is responsible for providing hands-on support for server hardware, cabling, rack installations, and infrastructure maintenance while ensuring high availability and operational excellence.
This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level or early-career IT professional looking to build a career in data center operations, infrastructure, or enterprise technology. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to learn enterprise hardware and data center best practices.Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rack-and-stack installation of servers, network equipment, and storage devices.
  • Install, label, organize, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling.
  • Replace failed hardware components, including:
    • Hard drives
    • Power supplies
    • Memory
    • Network interface cards
    • Server components
  • Perform basic diagnostics and break/fix activities on enterprise hardware.
  • Support equipment moves, additions, changes, and decommissioning activities.
  • Monitor equipment health and respond to infrastructure alerts as directed.
  • Assist with inventory management, asset tracking, and equipment audits.
  • Document completed work, maintenance activities, and infrastructure changes.
  • Escalate hardware, networking, or systems issues to senior engineers when appropriate.
  • Follow established operational procedures and change management processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure data center environment.
Required Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of experience in IT support, desktop support, or data center operations.
  • Basic understanding of:
