Job description

Job Title: Junior Database and Automation Engineer
Clearance Required: DHS Public Trust EOD, US Citizen (Secret Clearance or above preferred)
Work Location: Onsite 2-5 times a week in Arlington, VA and/or Washington, DC (applicant must be based within a commutable distance (1-2 hours) within the DMV)
Alpha Omega is looking for a Junior Database and Automation Engineer to join our team to support one of our government customers. The Junior Database and Automation Engineer will transform raw data into clear, actionable insights and automate business workflows across our organization. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and design sensibility to build visually compelling dashboards and efficient automation solutions that support decision-making and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports for stakeholders across various departments.
  • Create automated workflows using Power Automate (formerly Microsoft Flow) to streamline repetitive tasks and integrate systems.
  • Collect, clean, model, and analyze data from multiple sources (SQL, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, etc.).
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to understand reporting requirements and translate them into effective solutions.
  • Optimize data models and performance of reports and workflows for scalability and speed.
  • Apply UX/UI design principles to ensure dashboards are intuitive, visually appealing, and easy to interpret.
  • Monitor and maintain existing Power BI and Power Automate solutions, troubleshooting and enhancing as needed.
  • Train and support end users on best practices for interacting with dashboards and automation tools.
  • Improve existing reporting and analytics by gathering user feedback to re-design, improve, merge, or add new content into existing BI reports.
  • Maintain and support existing Power Apps applications (CPM, ORA).
  • Deliver routine feature requests and bug fixes from the backlog.
  • Support DHS ICE Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) tasks and technical documentation.
  • Assist with testing and deployment.
  • Handle ad hoc client requests for existing systems.

Required Qualifications:
Required Experience/Skills:
  • 3+ years of experience with Power BI, including DAX, data modeling, and dashboard development.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Power Automate for workflow automation and integration.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization best practices and design thinking.
  • Proficiency with data querying languages (e.g., SQL, M, DAX).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment for a matrixed organization.
  • Experience with Agile and SCRUM processes and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Government Processes, including Federal Acquisition & Finance
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) practices, principles, and techniques as they apply to Agile development process.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical details to a non-technical audience.

Desired Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL Databases and Query creation.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Lifecycle or commercial contracting.
  • Knowledge of Federal financial systems or commercial accounting.
  • Ability to develop training materials and conduct end-user training sessions.
  • Experience with Federal government contracting and/or program office organizations business processes.
  • Experience with RPA and AI/ML technologies.

Desired Certification(s):
  • Certifications that show the desire for learning and continued education (e.g., IBM or Tableau certifications).

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or an IT related field, which can be substituted for technical certifications or relevant experience.

Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $78,000- $100,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
