Job description

Clearstory is hiring a Software Engineer to join our Support Engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, customer success, and product development.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you'll help investigate and resolve complex customer issues, improve operational tooling, automate repetitive workflows, and contribute code across our platform. You'll work closely with Customer Success, Product, and Engineering to ensure our users have a reliable and exceptional experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who has some professional experience and wants to accelerate their growth. You'll gain exposure to the full Clearstory platform while developing strong technical, product, and customer-facing skills. Whether you're coming from a software engineering role, a support engineering role, or another highly technical customer-facing position, you'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact while growing as an engineer.

Clearstory is an AI-forward engineering organization. We believe AI is fundamentally changing how software is built, maintained, and supported. AI is not a side project or occasional productivity boost-it is a core part of how we work every day. We expect engineers to embrace AI-assisted development, debugging, investigation, documentation, and automation workflows to maximize their impact.

You'll have access to modern AI tooling, experienced engineering mentors, and opportunities to help shape how AI is leveraged across our engineering organization. We're looking for engineers who are excited about using AI to solve problems faster, learn continuously, and deliver exceptional outcomes for customers.

We operate in a hybrid work model: 3 days per week in the office, with the option to work 2 days per week from home if desired. We value in-person collaboration while supporting flexibility.

As a Junior Software Engineer, You Will
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve customer-reported issues across our application and integrations
  • Work closely with Customer Success, Product, and Engineering teams to diagnose problems and communicate solutions
  • Debug issues across the full stack, including frontend applications, backend services, databases, and third-party integrations
  • Build internal tools and automation that improve operational efficiency and reduce support workload
  • Leverage AI-assisted workflows to accelerate troubleshooting, root cause analysis, development, and documentation
  • Contribute code fixes and small product enhancements that improve customer experience
  • Monitor production systems and help identify opportunities to improve reliability and observability
  • Write clear documentation for troubleshooting, workflows, and technical processes
  • Learn from senior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and mentorship
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new AI-powered tools and techniques that improve engineering effectiveness
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer workflows and how Clearstory delivers value
About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally curious and enjoys solving technical problems
  • Is excited about AI and actively uses AI tools to improve productivity, learning, and problem-solving
  • Likes working directly on real customer issues and seeing the impact of their work
  • Has strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Takes ownership and follows problems through to resolution
  • Enjoys learning new technologies and systems
  • Adapts quickly to new tools, workflows, and ways of working
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
  • Embodies our core values: Be Curious, Customer Obsession, and Keep It Simple

Requirements

  • 1-4 years of professional software engineering, support engineering, or other relevant technical experience
  • Experience building and maintaining web applications using React and TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of JavaScript, modern frontend development practices, and debugging techniques
  • Familiarity with web applications, APIs, databases, and full-stack troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies as part of your workflow
  • Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, and code quality practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with Golang
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
  • Experience building side projects, open source contributions, or internship experience
  • Deep interest in AI-assisted software development and emerging AI technologies
  • Experience working with customer-facing software products
