Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Engineer provides the electrical controls and/or power distribution design of our manufactured product solutions. These design activities are to provide assurance that our products are being built per engineering specifications and other required standards (i.e., UL, NEC).

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, electrical preferred.
  • 8+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as: construction drawings,
    construction specifications, single lines, product manuals, sequence of
    operations, control drawings, work instructions, written directions, and markups to electrical/control drawings.
  • Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills with a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and have a positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including collaborating with other teams.
  • Occasionally required to inspect products in-progress in manufacturing.
  • Occasionally assist in moving materials and equipment that weigh ~40 lbs.
  • Proficient with 2-D [AutoDesk] AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent software.
  • Knowledgeable with UL, NEC, and NFPA 79 standards.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop design packages including electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and bills of materials adhering to project technical documentation ensuring compliance with PowerSecure design standards and applicable code or project specifications for complex to high-risk product solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff to produce design packages including electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and bills of materials adhering to project technical documentation.
  • Develop independently or work with Project Engineering team to produce point to-point lists.
  • Create site-wide drawings to capture system connections.
  • Collaborate with System Engineering to produce controls diagrams.
  • Collaborate with leadership, Solutions Architecture, Principle Engineering and Product Management teams to engineer configurable design standards.
  • Applies engineering fundamentals to support controls system design
    development under guidance from principle engineering team.
  • Serves as an electrical design subject matter expert for PowerSecure’s
    established products.
  • Review construction drawings to ensure alignment with assigned task and bring concerns to technical project management and/or Project Engineer in a timely fashion to mitigate any potential delays.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other engineering disciplines, technical project management and other departments to complete project deliverables.   
  • Be an active participant in project meetings including handoff, release review, and design meetings as required with the necessary stakeholders.
  • Set up Vault structure (folders, items, ECOs).
  • Support manufacturing product builds.
  • Manage multiple product design changes through revision documentation within PDM software.
  • Review and verify design package quality prior to release from product
    engineering.
  • Accountable cross functionally with system engineering team to provide
    engineered product solutions to ensure project system functionality that adheres to project specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, Vault, IFS and other tools.
  • Identify and execute processes that reduce the overall cost to design,
    manufacture, install and operate our products providing engineering calculations or other data to support necessary changes to leadership.
  • Coordinate with QC, field service, or commissioning teams to troubleshoot product design discrepancies.
  • Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved for product release to
    manufacturing for multiple projects.
  • Continue to educate, train and develop as an engineer, individual contributor and leader to support all PowerSecure business objectives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Occasionally assist in moving materials and equipment that weigh ~40lbs.
  • Primarily office environment with the exceptions of manufacturing shop visits.
