Junior Api Developer information

What is a junior API developer?

Junior API Developers are entry-level software professionals who specialize in building, maintaining, and integrating Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). They typically work under the supervision of more experienced developers to ensure that APIs function correctly and meet the needs of applications or external users. Their responsibilities may include writing code, testing endpoints, troubleshooting issues, and documenting API features. Junior API Developers often collaborate with other team members to deliver secure and efficient API solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior API developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior API Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), RESTful API concepts, and basic software development principles, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with API testing tools (like Postman), version control systems (such as Git), and documentation standards is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with team members and address technical challenges. These skills are crucial for building reliable APIs, ensuring smooth integration, and supporting agile development in collaborative environments.

What are some common challenges faced by junior API developers, and how can they overcome them?

Junior API Developers often encounter challenges such as understanding legacy codebases, integrating with multiple third-party services, and ensuring robust security practices. Adapting to various documentation standards and debugging complex data flows can also be tricky at the start. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from more experienced colleagues, utilize comprehensive API documentation, and participate in regular code reviews. Building a habit of writing clean, well-documented code and learning automated testing tools can also help enhance your effectiveness and confidence in the role.

Job description

We Are

Accenture's North America MuleSoft practice, which is one of the largest and most experienced networks of MuleSoft professionals in the world. We help leading organizations modernize their businesses through APIs, integration, automation, and emerging AI technologies.

Our teams work on some of the most complex and innovative integration initiatives across industries, helping clients unlock value from their applications, data, and digital platforms. From traditional enterprise integration to AI-powered and agentic architectures, we design solutions that are scalable, secure, reusable, and governed for long-term success.

We believe that great integration is the foundation of great digital experiences. As data becomes increasingly important for analytics, automation, AI, and business operations, organizations need trusted ways to connect systems, applications, and people. Our MuleSoft professionals play a critical role in helping clients build those foundations.

If you're passionate about integration, APIs, AI, and solving complex business challenges, you'll have opportunities to work with leading clients, collaborate with experienced practitioners, develop in-demand skills, and help shape the future of enterprise connectivity. Join us and build a career at the intersection of integration, data, and AI.

You Are

An experienced, hands-on MuleSoft Senior Developer who combines technical depth with practical leadership. You translate business requirements and architecture designs into scalable, secure, and maintainable APIs and integrations. You are comfortable working directly with clients, guiding development teams, reviewing technical work, mentoring less experienced developers, and contributing across the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through production support.

The Work

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support reusable MuleSoft APIs and integrations that follow enterprise standards and API-led connectivity patterns.
  • Implement System APIs, Process APIs, and Experience APIs using Anypoint Platform, Anypoint Studio, Mule Runtime, DataWeave, connectors, modules, and platform services.
  • Create technical specifications, contribute to solution design discussions, and support architects during architecture and design reviews.
  • Serve as a senior technical contributor, conduct code and peer reviews, mentor junior developers, and promote consistent development practices.
  • Develop automated unit and integration tests and ensure coding, security, documentation, quality, and governance standards are followed.
  • Support CI/CD, releases, environment promotion, monitoring, logging, alerting, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production incident resolution.
  • Work directly with client stakeholders and collaborate with analysts, architects, Agile teams, and global delivery teams.
  • Use AI and GenAI tools to accelerate development and documentation while validating generated code and artifacts for quality, security, and maintainability.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

Here's what you need:

  • MuleSoft Certified Developer Level 1 certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with OAuth, JWT, TLS, API security, test automation, logging, monitoring, exception handling, and performance or reliability troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional hands-on MuleSoft development experience with Anypoint Platform, Anypoint Studio, Mule Runtime, DataWeave, REST and SOAP services, MuleSoft connectors, scopes, components, and integration patterns.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience implementing API-led connectivity and using Anypoint API Manager, Runtime Manager, MUnits, Design Center, Exchange, and Anypoint Monitoring.
  • Minimum of 3 year/s experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, Agile delivery, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience deploying and maintaining integrations on MuleSoft CloudHub or Runtime Fabric (RTF) implementations.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience with AI and GenAI tools for productivity, technical documentation, development acceleration, and well-structured prompting, including validation of AI-generated artifacts.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associate's Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience)

Bonus Points If:

  • MuleSoft Certified Developer Level 2 certification or any other MuleSoft Certifications beyond Developer.
  • Experience leading a workstream or a team of 2-5 MuleSoft developers, conducting code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and contributing to estimation, sprint planning, and delivery governance.
  • Experience with Anypoint MQ, Flex Gateway, Omni Gateway, API governance, CloudHub 2.0, Runtime Fabric, container-based deployments, observability platforms, or advanced API security policies.
  • Experience integrating Salesforce, SAP, Workday, Oracle Cloud Applications, ServiceNow, healthcare platforms, HL7, or FHIR.
  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), agentic integration patterns, and GenAI-assisted API development, testing, documentation, or code generation.
  • Experience with Boomi, SnapLogic, Informatica, Workato, enterprise integration modernization, or global and offshore delivery teams.
