Job description
Position Summary
The Coordinator of Disability Services and Testing Services supports students with documented disabilities by helping ensure they receive reasonable academic accommodations and are not academically disadvantaged because of their disability. The Coordinator works closely with both students and faculty to implement accommodations effectively. This position is also responsible for maintaining and updating disability services policies and procedures in alignment with institutional needs and applicable legal requirements. In addition, the Coordinator oversees university testing services, including CLEP, ESL testing, DSST, and Accuplacer. The Coordinator also manages John Brown University's ASPIRE Program, which serves students admitted to the institution on conditional admission. This responsibility includes providing accountability and academic support for ASPIRE students and teaching a required learning success strategies course each fall semester.

Disability Services
- Meet and communicate with students regarding documented disabilities and assist students in navigating the application process and securing reasonable accommodations in the application process, if necessary.
- Review documentation from TUG, Online, Graduate, and Concurrent students to determine if student has a qualifying disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act, assess the functional limitations of their disability and the recommendations of the medical or mental health professional to identify reasonable accommodations in the classroom, housing, dining, and other environments as needed including service animal or emotional support animal requests.
- Provide recommendations to the JBU Residential Life staff about the type of accommodation needed for the student and work with JBU Residential Life staff to identify room spaces and locations with the appropriate modifications or accommodations present, including identifying a reasonable alternative, if necessary, based upon housing availability.
- Partner with JBU Residential Life staff regarding the conduct process for alleged service or emotional support animal violations.
- Participate in developing and facilitating staff and faculty trainings focused on better supporting students with disabilities while at JBU.
- Refer students to the appropriate JBU process, resource, or campus office if they identify other needs surrounding academics, wellness, finances, or other holistic needs, after assessing their needs.
- Ensure accessibility to university programs, classrooms, materials, housing, dining, and environment.
- Assist in intervention strategies with students of concern through the Student Success Team.
- Responsible for updating of disability policies and procedures.
- Maintaining student files keeping all records current.
- Serve as subject-level expert on Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act, and any other disability-related legal precedent.
- In consultation with legal counsel, provide suggestions to John Brown University about alterations to policy or process that should be made to remain in compliance or to be progressive within the interpretation of federal and state law as related to students with disabilities.
- Keep abreast of changing and evolving trends regarding disability accommodation issues.
- Responsible for disability accommodations at both December and May commencement ceremonies.
- General advocacy for disability awareness on JBU's Campus.
- Complete professional development, serve on committees, and other duties as assigned.
- Schedule and proctor exams/tests/assessments for students with academic accommodations.
- Management of CLEP and DSST testing for JBU students.
- Proctor ESL (Accuplacer) testing at the beginning of both fall and spring semesters.
- Update best practices/policies and procedures for testing.
- Update testing webpages and information.
- Management of the LRC 150 Testing Lab.
- Work with IT on technology support and maintenance for testing systems.
- Teaching 2-credit hour Strategies for College Success course in fall semester.
- Have monthly Individual Meeting with students.
- Review bi-weekly progress reports with students.
- Provide hands-on support/mentorship of students.
- Communicate with faculty regarding student performance.
- Provide an end-of-year report on ASPIRE program.
- Participate on the ADMFA Committee.
- Knowledge of ADA law and its effects on academic accessibility in addition to physical campus accessibility in the college setting
- Knowledge of the Fair Housing Act
- Ability to multi-task several responsibilities at a time (i.e., testing, accommodations, alternative texts, etc.)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- At least three years of experience working with students with disabilities
- At least three years of experience working in higher education
- Knowledge of CLEP and Accuplacer tests and processes
- Knowledge of academic support strategies (i.e., time management, test preparation, etc.)
Masters Preferred, Bachelors required

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
