Job Planner information

What does a job planner do?

A Job Planner is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and coordinating the various tasks required to complete a project efficiently. They analyze project requirements, allocate resources, create timelines, and ensure that each phase of the project progresses smoothly. Job Planners work closely with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to ensure deadlines are met and potential issues are identified early. Their role is crucial for maximizing productivity, optimizing resource use, and minimizing project delays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a job planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Job Planner, you need strong organizational, scheduling, and project management skills, often supported by a background in engineering or construction and relevant certifications. Familiarity with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and ERP systems is typically required. Balancing the needs and deadlines of different teams requires strong organizational skills and clear communication. It's common to encounter shifting project scopes or unexpected delays, so adaptability and proactive problem-solving are essential. Regular collaboration with project managers, engineers, and vendors helps ensure that schedules stay on track and resources are allocated efficiently.

Description
Alta Planning + Design seeks a TDM Planner III for our Atlanta, GA office. This position is a great opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation and who is interested in growing their career as a planner specializing in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) planning. If you are looking to join an innovative organization and do work that connects people to places while advancing social justice, safety, and environmental resilience, apply with Alta today!
About Alta
Alta Planning + Design is a sustainable transportation company dedicated to creating active, healthy communities through planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and education/encouragement programs. Founded in 1996, Alta pioneered the field of active transportation, and today, our work empowers people to live active, healthy lives and gets them where they need to go. We are a global leader in mobility innovation, committed to social justice, safety, and environmental resilience.

Alta’s TDM Practice
At Alta, Transportation Demand Management (TDM) isn’t just a strategy. It’s a movement toward a more sustainable, connected future. TDM is about empowering people to choose smarter, greener ways to get around. We’re passionate about reducing congestion, cutting emissions, and enhancing mobility for all.

Alta’s TDM practice is one of the largest and most comprehensive in North America, bringing together three integrated teams: TDM Planning, TDM Programs, and TDM Marketing. Our planners lead everything from site-specific plans to regional strategies, craft policy, and drive community and stakeholder engagement. They also support data analysis, performance evaluation, and collaborate closely with our Programs and Marketing teams to bring TDM to life.
If you're looking to help shape the way people move—with a team that blends creativity, technical expertise, and a shared passion for impact—Alta’s TDM Planning group is where ideas become action.

Day to Day
Our TDM Planner III will play a key role in shaping and delivering a diverse portfolio of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) plans and initiatives. This includes regional, and citywide TDM strategies, developer and employer-based TDM plans and regulatory compliance and supporting our local transportation management associations (TMAs) with planning, data analysis, and evaluation support.
