EWR Airport Technician - Passenger Boarding Bridge Operator
Job Summary:
A Passenger Boarding Bridge Operator (PBB) (also known as an air bridge, jet bridge, jetway) will help passengers to embark and disembark an aircraft without the requirement to go outside or to be exposed to the elements. Passenger Boarding Bridges can be found in many configurations and may be fixed or movable depending upon the installation. Moving passengers from the terminal to an aircraft, and from the aircraft back to the terminal, efficiently and safely, is a major objective of efficient airport operations. Passenger Boarding Bridges Operators mobilize the unit during aircraft arrival and departure; once the aircraft is parked and secure, maneuvered by a trained operator to come in contact with the aircraft at the desired boarding door. These units are height-adjustable to allow use with multiple aircraft types.
Responsibilities:
  • Confirm with the Operations in charge at the gate assignment and take note of all the flight details that he has been given for the shift daily.
  • Report to the assigned gate 20 minutes before the estimated time of arrival to check if the PBB is in parking position and if there’s any obstruction or any equipment illegally parked inside the PBB maneuvering area daily.
  • Perform testing procedures before the estimated time of arrival to ensure that PBB is working properly on aircraft arrival daily.
  • Follow the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for docking and undocking, and always follow the docking matrix to avoid collisions while driving the PBBs daily.
  • Verify with aircraft engineers for connection and disconnection of GPUs and PCAs upon arrivals and departures. Transmit this message verbally to avoid miscommunication, especially for GPUs daily.
  • Generate all flight details and timings on the given flight log sheet daily.
  • Monitor the level of PBB and the aircraft cabin floor while waiting for departure, especially during loading and unloading cargo daily.
  • Wait for the incoming group before leaving the area for the turnover daily.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma, GED, or Equivalent, Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule for a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Background check and drug screen required
  • Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport ID. Badge

  • Customer and service-oriented
  • Proactive and strong work ethic and initiative, who would like to grow and develop within the organization. Working knowledge of computers and equipment
  • Experience in maneuvering heavy machinery
