POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Director, Inventory Planning reports to the Chief Supply Chain Officer
  • Located in Lewisville, TX
  • Full-Time
  • Hybrid

Role Summary

The Director of Inventory Planning is responsible for leading the enterprise-wide strategy, design, and execution of inventory planning and replenishment across TriMark’s multi-region distribution network.

This role ensures the right product is in the right place at the right time—balancing service levels, working capital efficiency, and network capacity. The Director will drive standardization of planning processes, optimize inventory deployment, and leverage ERP and planning tools to enable a more predictive, data-driven supply chain.

This leader will play a critical role in aligning demand signals from Sales, supply inputs from Procurement, and operational constraints from Distribution to deliver improved fill rates, reduced excess/obsolete inventory, and enhanced network performance.

Core Responsibilities

DRP Strategy & Network Alignment

  • Design and implement a scalable framework across all distribution centers and regions
  • Align inventory planning strategy with network design, transportation flows, and ERP capabilities
  • Establish inventory segmentation strategies (ABC, velocity, critical SKUs) to drive differentiated planning approaches
  • Partner with Supply Chain leadership to support network optimization initiatives and warehouse consolidations

Inventory Planning & Replenishment

  • Own enterprise inventory positioning, replenishment logic, and safety stock strategies to include:
    • Develop and maintain safety stock strategies to balance product availability, inventory investment, and service level targets
    • Monitor inventory buffers and adjust safety stock parameters based on demand variability, lead times, seasonally, and supply risk
    • Optimize safety stock levels across distribution centers and product categories to minimize stockouts and excess inventory
    • Drive improvements in key metrics: fill rate, inventory turns, backorders, and excess & obsolete (E&O) inventory
    • Ensure alignment between demand forecasts, purchasing plans, and distribution requirements

Systems, Data & ERP Integration

  • Lead DRP design and execution within ERP systems (JDE, Infor WMS, or future-state platforms)
  • Partner with IT and ERP teams to enhance planning tools, reporting, and automation capabilities
  • Establish data governance standards to ensure accuracy of item master, lead times, and planning inputs
  • Leverage analytics and reporting to enable proactive decision-making and exception management

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Procurement to align supplier lead times, MOQs, and inbound flow strategies
  • Work closely with Sales to incorporate demand signals, promotions, and large project impacts
  • Collaborate with Warehouse Operations to ensure planning aligns with capacity, labor, and throughput constraints
  • Serve as a key interface between Finance and Operations to balance service levels with working capital targets

Process Standardization & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish standardized DRP processes, cadences, and governance across all regions
  • Implement KPIs, dashboards, and routines (weekly/monthly) to monitor performance and drive accountability
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives leveraging Lean / Six Sigma methodologies
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies in planning, ordering, and inventory deployment

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Build and lead a high-performing DRP and inventory planning team
  • Develop organizational capability in demand and supply planning disciplines
  • Provide coaching, training, and career development for planning talent across the network
  • Act as a change leader in driving adoption of new tools, processes, and ways of working

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in inventory planning, supply chain or distribution planning roles
  • Proven experience leading DRP or multi-echelon inventory planning in a complex distribution network
  • Expertise in Safety Stock and Cycle Stock
  • Strong experience with ERP systems (JDE, SAP, Oracle, or similar) and WMS platforms
  • Deep understanding of inventory optimization, replenishment models, and supply chain analytics
  • Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth, transformation-driven environments preferred

Leadership Profile

  • Highly analytical with strong business and financial acumen
  • Systems thinker—able to connect demand, supply, and network dynamics
  • Operates with urgency and accountability in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong cross-functional influencer with the ability to align Sales, Operations, and Finance
  • Change agent comfortable building structure in evolving environments
