Physical Security Engineers

work on various projects as assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer. This position will play a role in the entire design process including but not limited to:

  • preliminary assessments
  • concept creation
  • leading designs with support from your peers, SME's, and BIM designers
  • internal and external problem resolution
  • drawing and specification production
  • customer and vendor accessibility.

The Physical Security Engineer may work on several concurrent projects and will be responsible to ensure that projects are completed on time.

Physical Security Engineer

to work on security projects. As a Physical Security Engineer assigned to a local Jacobs office, you will collaborate closely with our security technology team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to design and develop security solutions for buildings, facilities, and sites. Your responsibilities will include leading security design efforts, creating schematics, schedules, plan drawings, and specifications; performing calculations for video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads; contributing to cross-discipline coordination; and identifying potential conflicts or inconsistencies with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams. In this role, it is expected that you will have extensive experience in security technology with an established professional network of industry contacts. Additionally, we require a willingness to learn, an ability to dedicate yourself to growth in a rapidly evolving technology field, and a commitment to join a strong team and help with a wide variety of tasks. Employment type: Full-Time Required travel within the US: 1-5%

Here's what you'll need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or an equivalent technical/scientific discipline; master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is strongly preferred.
  • Professional security certifications (CISSP, CPP, PSP, CCNA, RCDD etc.) are a plus.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in planning, designing, and commissioning physical security systems; project management experience is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of physical security systems, including video surveillance, access control, intercom, and intrusion detection systems, as well as familiarity with leading manufacturers and technical standards.
    • Experience with conducting vulnerability and risk assessments, with an understanding of various assessment methodologies.
    • Ability to evaluate emerging security technologies and analyze trade-offs, such as multi-megapixel cameras to thermal imaging cameras or assessing ground-based radar versus Lidar systems versus other technologies for perimeter intrusion detection applications.
    • Strong understanding of network technologies and cybersecurity principles.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and provide/receive constructive feedback.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Tools & Software:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 / Office, Bluebeam, and design collaboration tools.
    • Experience with Revit, ACC, BIM360, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of CSI design and construction specifications
  • Experience estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale project design effort
  • Knowledge of construction cost estimating for security implementation

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Experience leading projects and managing resources
  • Experience mentoring junior staff
  • Design Management experience
  • Design experience in data centers
