POSITIONSUMMARY:

TheDirector of Residence Life provides strategic leadership for DuquesneUniversity's comprehensive residence life program and works collaboratively withcampus leadership to advance the Residential Learning Communities and theLiving Learning Communities through expression of Spiritan mission andcommitment to educating the whole person through Student Life's engage, thriveand belong strategic plan.
TheDirector is responsible for the overall structure, direction, services, andprograms of Residence Life, including residential conduct, programmaticassessment, and the development of outcome-focused Living Learning Communities.The Director has overall responsibility for professional and student staff andparticipates in the organization, implementation, and continuous improvement ofthe residence life program. The Director reports to the Assistant VicePresident of Student Housing and Residence Life and directly supervises twoAssistant Directors. The Assistant Directors supervise nine Resident Directorsand their Resident Assistant staffs. Indirect supervision includesapproximately 90 Resident Assistants and nine Resident Directors.
TheDirector collaborates closely with the Housing Team, DU CARES, Student Conduct,Campus Ministry, Public Safety, Wellbeing Center, Dean of Students Office,Title IX, Center for Student Involvement, Academic Offices and other campuspartners to strengthen the residential experience, respond effectively tostudent needs, support student accountability processes, and uphold communitystandards. The Director also provides leadership for policy development,implementation, and training to ensure consistent, equitable, and educationallygrounded practices across the residential system.
Thisposition is an on-call position and requires flexibility to work evenings andweekends.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
StrategicLeadership and Administration
Providesstrategic direction for the overall Residence Life program, includingstructure, services, staff, and continuous improvement efforts aligned with theStudent Life strategic plan.
Leadspolicy development, implementation, and training to ensure consistent,equitable, and educationally grounded practices across the residential system.
Administerscore operational processes including accountability, hall opening and closing,duty systems, damages, keys, visitation, and facilities requests.
Overseesdesign, marketing, and communication for room selection and placement,including website content and large-scale programming materials.
Participatesin SHRL weekly staff meetings and submits weekly reports to the Assistant VicePresident of Student Housing and Residence Life.
Preparesmonthly crime statistics for submission to the Department of Public Safety.
Assumesweekly and/or weekend duty on a regularly assigned basis.
StudentConduct and Accountability
Serves as aconduct officer for resident students, adjudicating infractions of Universityand Residence Life regulations in a fair, consistent, and educationallygrounded manner.
Providesoversight of Maxient case management for SHRL; serves as the primary liaison toStudent Conduct for residential accountability processes.
Counselsand advises individual residents and works collaboratively with StudentConduct, DU CARES, Title IX, and Public Safety to respond effectively tostudent needs and uphold community standards.
Ensuresresidential conduct policies and procedures are reviewed regularly and reflectcurrent legal requirements and best practices in student affairs.
Promotes acommunity standards culture across the residential system through proactiveeducation, staff training, and consistent enforcement.
Assessment
Leadsprogrammatic assessment efforts for Residence Life, including the developmentand evaluation of learning outcomes for residential programs, Living LearningCommunities, and staff training initiatives.
Collects,analyzes, and reports data on residential student engagement, conduct trends,LLC participation, and community development outcomes to inform continuousimprovement.
Developsand maintains assessment tools in collaboration with campus partners and usesfindings to guide resource allocation, program design, and policy decisions.
Preparesregular reports for the Assistant Vice President on the effectiveness ofresidential programs and presents data-informed recommendations forprogrammatic development.
LivingLearning Communities and Residential Programming
Providesstrategic oversight for the development, implementation, and assessment ofoutcome-focused Living Learning Communities in partnership with AcademicAffairs and other campus stakeholders.
Chairs oroversees the LLC Steering Committee, facilitating collaboration among faculty,academic offices, and student life partners to sustain and grow the LLCprogram.
Developsand implements Residential Learning programs with clear learning outcomes tiedto student success, wellness, and community development.
Builds andmaintains relationships with academic departments and campus offices toidentify opportunities for integrated residential learning experiences.
Developsstudent success and wellness guidelines and coordinates program efforts forboth individual student development and community-wide initiatives.
StaffSupervision and Development
Directlysupervises two Assistant Directors; provides leadership, coaching, evaluation,and professional development support.
OverseesResident Director and Resident Assistant training, supervision structures, andevaluation processes.
Conductsregular staff meetings and in-service programs to support the ongoingdevelopment of the Resident Assistant staff.
Fosters aprofessional team culture grounded in Duquesne's Spiritan mission, commitmentto student success, and principles of equity and inclusion.
CampusPartnerships and Communication
Collaborateswith the Housing Team, DU CARES, Student Conduct, Campus Ministry, PublicSafety, Wellbeing Center, Dean of Students Office, Title IX, Center for StudentInvolvement, and Academic Offices to strengthen the residential experience.
Promoteseffective communication within the residential system and with students,families, University personnel, and other stakeholders.
Manages allweb, print, and social media content for the Office of Student Housing andResidence Life. Leads development of a full communication plan that includeshousing and residence life programs.
Participatesin Division of Student Life programs and activities and represents ResidenceLife in campus-wide initiatives.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
