Instructional Student Assistant Tutor Pool AY 26-27

POSITION

The College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Success Center invites applications for its Instructional Student Assistant Tutor Pool.

This is a pool of Instructional Student Assistant to draw on as necessary.

This is a temporary part-time position and tutors will be scheduled for work up to 20 hours per week Monday thru Thursday between the hours of 8am-5pm during the semester.

JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of CASECS Director, the primary duties of the Student Success Center Tutor provide tutoring services to students one-to-one or in small groups. Secondary duties may include providing assistance and support to the ECS Student Success/CASECS Center front desk and other ECS special events.

This position is an opportunity to gain experience in a professional environment, build relationships with other tutors/ students at CSUF, gain leadership experience, and develop skills as a facilitator of learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at CSUF
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Receive a grade of "B+" or higher in subjects for which tutoring services are provided
  • Be available to work 15 scheduled hours with potential of additional appointment hours
  • Basic knowledge of the University and campus services
  • Meet eligibility for student employment and be in good academic standing

Required Skills:

  • Create a welcoming and safe environment for students seeking academic assistance
  • Demonstrate great interpersonal communication skills
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to be dependable, punctual, and organized
  • Strong verbal/written communication and customer service skills in-person, on the phone, and via e-mail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity and ability to use common office equipment (computer, copier, printer, fax, etc.) and email software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Students with Federal Work Study award

COMPENSATION

All Instructional Student Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.  Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $17.86 - $23.84 per hour
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualification, not to exceed $20.00 per hour.
