Job Title: VP of IT
Type: Direct Hire
Work Location: Onsite in Birmingham, AL
Job Overview:
We are looking for a strong, experienced, strategic, and technical leader to help establish and expand a world-class IT organization in support of the company as it continues to grow. The ideal candidate will have broad experience in managing IT teams, the implementation of enterprise (ERP/CRM) packaged software, deep knowledge of cloud and on-premises infrastructure and IT service management, experience leveraging AI solutions in the enterprise, serial M&A and integration expertise, and a fanatical drive to implement sustainable and repeatable processes. The candidate should have a track record of helping companies make digital transformation by leveraging AI and data. Using these skills, the leader will help partner with the business leaders to ensure the company's IT capabilities scale as the company enters its next chapter of growth.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership:
  • Collaborate with business leaders throughout the company to ensure strategic alignment of business and IT initiatives for projects actively participating in essential IT projects, promoting an environment of teamwork and agility
  • Organize and lead a progressive team, promoting an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability
  • Provide technical leadership and direction for the company's core business systems and infrastructure
  • Work closely with Executive Leadership team to assess the IT capabilities of target companies, determine synergies, evaluate integration costs, and facilitate seamless IT integration and ensure repeatability through documented methodology and playbooks
  • Implement data governance and analytics strategies to harness the power of data for informed decision-making
  • Build and maintain effective communication channels with external stakeholders, vendors, and partners

Financial Management and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Develop and oversee the IT OpEx and CapEx budgets with an emphasis on achieving cost-effectiveness and maximizing ROI
  • Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures that are practical and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and applicable standards
  • Establish reviews and processes to ensure the optimal cost management of cloud and on-premises assets, company devices and refreshes, and software licensing
Enterprise and Business Systems:
  • Familiarity with managing medium-to-large scale implementations and operations of the following software packages:
    • HubSpot or comparable CRM solution
    • ERP solutions such as NetSuite and/or industry specific solutions such as RentalMan
    • Data warehouse and reporting solutions such as MS Fabric and Power BI
    • Commercially available integration packages such as Workato
    • Equipment and Vehicle tracking and telemetry solutions such as Samsara and Solartrak
    • Modern generative AI technologies and applications including managed LLM services
  • Organize and optimize the IT teams to provide technical leadership for all company core enterprise systems
  • Oversee the implementation of a consistent set of processes and governance frameworks for project and change management
  • Provide stewardship for the company's data and formalize data governance and KPI and metrics with business stakeholders and ensure the use of consistent analytics across the company
  • Oversee decisions on build-vs-buy analysis, governance of customizations and third-party tool selection review and criteria for the company's critical and non-critical systems
  • Create and facilitate change control board to enable cross-functional visibility, prioritization and adoption across the organization

Infrastructure, IT Service Management and End-User Computing:
  • Lead the infrastructure team in the deployment, maintenance, and monitoring of the company's on-premises and cloud environments
  • Working in conjunction with MSP, be responsible for the company's end-user computing environment
  • Provide technical direction and thought leadership to the team with regards to cloud migrations and consolidation of the company's assets in support of organic and inorganic growth
  • Establish, with the company's procurement functions, all IT vendor management processes, measurements, and management framework
  • Establish strategic guidance with regards to unified communications, virtual collaboration and meetings, and remote work
  • Act as a liaison with technical IT teams and the company's security function to ensure the optimal deployment of technical security controls across the company's infrastructure and end-user environments

Security and Compliance:
  • Responsible for all aspects of technical security ensuring that appropriate tools, processes, and organization are in place to support appropriate cybersecurity prevention, detection, and response measures are in place
  • Partner with Managed Service Security Provider (MSSP) in management of security
  • Support the company in other security or compliance related activities such as audits, certifications and investigations
Data, Analytics and Visualization:
Responsible for the company's enterprise data model and the organizations of IT and business teams to support consistent adoption
  • Own the tools, organization, and technical roadmap for the use and exploitation of the company's data for it's competitive advantage
  • Partner with company leadership and business stakeholders to develop critical and high-priority metrics and KPI's and ensure the consistency of experience in the access and delivery of these metrics

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or commiserate experience
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of IT experience, with at least seven (7) years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to merge technical expertise with strategic business partnerships skills
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills
  • Extraordinary technical skills and In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies including AI

Big Points if you have:
Proven experience as a Dir of IT, VP of IT, CIO, or similar managerial role
  • Deep knowledge and understanding in SaaS-based solutions and cloud computing concepts
  • Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science or related field
  • Strong change management skills
  • Experience with M&A, acquisition integrations
  • Ability to think, engage, and communicate at all levels of the organization from technical teams to board-level
  • Strong vendor and partner Management skills
  • Experience working in construction management or equipment rental industries

A reasonable estimate of the Base Salary for this role is $175,000 - $225,000 per year. The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
