SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Social Studies Teacher
Reports to: Head of School
Shift Type: Full Time Position
Contract Term: 10 Months
Location: Islamic School of Irving
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree; a Master's degree or a closely related field is a plus. (US Degree equivalency of overseas degree must be submitted)
  • Preferably a valid Texas teaching certificate from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to work well with all stakeholders
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications
  • Minimum of one year of successful teaching in a public or private school in a related field in the US or at least one (1) year of student teaching or an approved internship
  • Preference for candidates with degrees from accredited US colleges/universities
  • Experience in teaching honors/AP courses is a plus

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Demonstrated competency in the assigned core academic subject area
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students effectively and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies:
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
  • Analyze and utilize data from standardized tests to guide instruction
  • Design lessons that accommodate individual student differences
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines and school policies
  • Adapt instructional methods, materials, and strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues in planning and implementing instructional goals and methods
  • Supervise teacher aides and volunteers in the classroom
  • Utilize technology to enhance teaching and student engagement

Student Growth and Development:
  • Support students in developing effective study habits and learning strategies
  • Consistently monitor and assess student achievement through formative and summative assessments
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and duties as assigned
  • Serve as a positive role model aligned with the school's mission

Classroom Management and Organization:
  • Create a structured, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
  • Implement and enforce classroom management policies in accordance with the school's Code of Conduct
  • Take necessary precautions to ensure student safety and maintain school resources
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources

Communication:
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and guardians
  • Foster professional relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and community members
  • Communicate effectively through various platforms to support student learning and engagement

Professional Growth and Development:
  • Stay updated with current best practices in education and instructional strategies
  • Participate in professional development opportunities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth
  • Comply with all state and school regulations and policies for teachers
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and actively serve on school committees
  • Exhibit professional and ethical conduct in alignment with school values

Tutoring:
  • Provide 90 minutes of tutoring weekly (two sessions of 45 minutes) for At-Risk students
  • Support students with additional academic assistance as needed
