Job Description: IT Manager (RPG Systems)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced IT Manager with deep expertise in RPG development and IBM i (AS/400) systems to lead and support our business-critical technology environment. This role is responsible for managing IT operations, overseeing RPG application development and maintenance, driving system improvements, and ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise systems.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership skills and can effectively partner with business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions that support organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

IT Leadership & Management

  • Lead and manage daily IT operations, infrastructure, and application support activities.
  • Supervise internal IT staff and external technology vendors.
  • Develop and implement IT strategies, policies, and best practices.
  • Manage IT projects, budgets, and technology initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.

RPG Development & Application Support

  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and enhancement of RPG applications on IBM i (AS/400) platforms.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Lead application modernization initiatives and process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and system issues.
  • Manage software testing, deployment, and change management processes.
  • Ensure proper documentation of applications, procedures, and system configurations.

Systems Administration & Infrastructure

  • Maintain and support IBM i systems, databases, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Monitor system performance and implement optimization strategies.
  • Manage user security, access controls, and system integrity.
  • Coordinate hardware and software upgrades as needed.
  • Support integration efforts between IBM i applications and other business systems.

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify technology opportunities and operational improvements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience supporting IBM i (AS/400) environments.
  • 5+ years of RPG development experience (RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, Free-Format RPG).
  • 3+ years of IT leadership or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 for i databases.
  • Experience with system administration, security, backup, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Proficiency in SQL, CL programming, and application troubleshooting.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP systems running on IBM i platforms.
  • Knowledge of API integrations, web services, and modernization tools.
  • Experience with Power Systems hardware and operating system upgrades.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain business environments.
  • IT certifications related to IBM i, project management, or cybersecurity.
