The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications will play a central role in advancing the School’s strategic communications goals through clear, compelling, and mission-aligned storytelling. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Engagement, this position works closely with Admissions, Advancement, Division Leadership, and other key stakeholders to develop and execute communications that strengthen community engagement, support institutional priorities, and elevate the School’s brand across internal and external audiences.

This position emphasizes strategic communications, editorial planning, content development, website management, and community engagement. The successful candidate will be a collaborative communicator, a strong writer, and an organized project manager who thrives in a dynamic school environment and values clear, thoughtful communication in a multilingual and multicultural community.

Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications & Community Engagement
  • Oversee the School’s weekly all-parent communication, including content development, editing, calendar integration, and approval workflows.
  • Draft and distribute regular e-communications, including the monthly Community Newsletter, monthly Alumni Newsletter, and quarterly Past Parent Newsletter. 
  • Draft and distribute school-wide communications that support key initiatives, events, programs, achievements, and leadership messaging.
  • Partner with Admissions, Advancement, and Division Leadership to develop compelling stories and communications that highlight the student experience and support enrollment, retention, fundraising, and community engagement goals.
  • Support Advancement communications, including donor, alumni, campaign, and event-related messaging, as needed.
Website & Digital Communications
  • Serve as the primary manager of the School’s website, ensuring content remains current, accurate, engaging, and aligned with the School’s brand and messaging standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of the website and parent portal to maintain quality, consistency, functionality, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve the effectiveness and accessibility of parent-facing communications and digital resources.
Content Development & Brand Stewardship
  • Develop, edit, and manage written content for a variety of school publications and communications, including newsletters, annual reports, event materials, strategic initiatives, and community messaging.
  • Support design strategy for key advancement initiatives, including the annual Gala and Community Giving & Gratitude Day. 
  • Ensure all communications align with the School’s style guide, brand standards, and messaging framework.
  • Coordinate the production of major institutional publications and printed materials.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen storytelling and highlight student, faculty, alumni, and community experiences across school communications channels.
  • Maintain organized digital communication assets and templates to support consistency and efficiency across departments.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the School’s spring onboarding and enrollment forms process, including management of school-wide forms, logistics communications, and family resource materials.
  • Stay informed on communications and independent school trends and recommend strategies to strengthen engagement and communication effectiveness.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned in support of the School’s evolving priorities and Strategic Plan.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of relevant communications, marketing, editorial, or public relations experience preferred, with preference given to non-profit experience. 
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to engage effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, families, and external partners.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Appreciation for and commitment to working within a multilingual, multicultural school community.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems and digital communication platforms preferred.
  • Strong command of English required; proficiency in French preferred.
